I just ordered one of these 2005-08 Dodge Ram 56029274AA starters so I don't have it in hand yet. These are just pics from the web. I'm sure someone else has one on their Gen 3 Hemi swap into an old Mopar, but how does one wire it up exactly? The positive cable goes to the main post, but what connects to the little spade on the right? Is it just a jumper to the big lug? I'm familiar to the old Mopar mini starters & never played with this newer style starter before, so just wanted to ask before I fry anything haha! Thanks,

A wire from the firewall mounted relay goes to the little spade terminal.
July 19th should be "Drive Like Rockford Day". R.I.P. Jimmie.

As already stated, the wiring from the starter relay goes to that terminal. It's what tells the starter to engage.

I'm in same boat........ So what, if anything, goes to the other stud? I do not get what you are asking. Two wires used. Big battery feeds the top stud. Spade runs to a starter relay. There are no more terminals to attach anything.

Thanks for all the input & will connect the spade accordingly. In my case I will need to connect it to an output wire on a modern power distribution module, no more relays or fuses for me. I just got to say that the tiny spade looks like a horrible connection for a starter using that type of female spade connector & imagine that it would eventually wiggle the wire off after thousands of miles? I'm so used to a nut & bolt deal on Mopar starter connections that I was was unsure of the tiny spade? Oh we'll... I'm sure those Mitsubishi engineers are much smarter than I am... haha!

When the factory uses spade connectors many times the have a lock tab on the wire end plug that keeps the plug connected. You have to depress/push on a tab to pull the plug off.

I'm in same boat........ So what, if anything, goes to the other stud? Your large positive cable goes to the top stud on the starter solenoid, the small spade plug on the solenoid gets the wire from the starter relay. The starter relay wire tells the solenoid on the starter to engage and it then feed voltage from the top stud to the bottom stud which engages the starter.

Sorry to be a pain, in the pic above, there are 2 studs and a spade. I get that main BATT lead goes on 1 stud, and the start relay goes to the spade. What about the other stud?

The lower stud already has a wire connected to it, coming from inside the solenoid. That's why when the small female tab gets powered from the starter relay it engages the solenoid and the positive cable powered top stud send power through the solenoid and engages the starter. Make sense? Like they say, they are no dumb questions. It's how you learn how stuff works.

Mopars have been two wire for quite a while.. Yeah, ever since they quit using a foot pedal starter.
