Thinking on getting me a decent car rotisserie, I always think how nice it would be and how I can elevate my level of detail and have poked around online looking at whatever I see. Stuff like the JEGS unit doesn't seem to have great reviews and its at 1,000 or so. I see quite a few in the 1500 range, so I guess under 2,000, whats the best one in your opinion?

I bought a USCartool one from John Passman back when he was starting out.
It was priced well so grabbed it as it was not doing another car without one. Looked well made.
I never used it as my home was totaled by a Hurracane. Then surgery, followed by stage 3 cancer.
Still hope to use it one day so can not say how well it works. Was said to also be used as a front and rear Dolly by using some of the parts.
I hope someone reads this and shows what parts are used to do so.
I saw a,Whurrley Jig (SP?) Set up at a car show with a car on it.
That thing was great and worked well and have good review's. But they cost$
But you know ther would have made sure it worked well at that show
I scrapes all my uncoating, cleaned it, epoxy primed, and shotg 3 coats of sandable primer on my back on jack stands.
Wet sanding 3 coats if Slicksand.
My long time and best friend and I traded places shooting, 4 coats base as it was kinda transparent. Followed by 5 coats clear.
Sorry for the highjack thread but no way am I am doing it again without one.
My rotisserie look on jack stands and the 1st paint that went on.

Kevin, I remember when you did the pink car, and I forgot how you got underneath it like that with the full body color. Back then I was in my early 20s and was like "I will save money". Now I'm almost 40 and figure I am more like "I will save my back!" lol

Thing about buying one if you only do one car is you can always sell it and get most of your money back out of it. For somewhere between zero and $500 bucks or so you could avoid having to do the undercarriage on your back. Money well spent in my book.

I build them for the Canadian market. If I were buying one in the U.S. the only one I would buy is a Whirly Jig. The US Car Tool unit is "ok". I don't like the Auto Twirler at all. And I wouldn't wouldn't recommend the $1000 Chinese units to my worst enemy.

When you look at North American - made units (mine included) you are buying units built with NA-made steel AND NA labor - and in most cases no middle man. When you buy a Chinese unit, half the price is the importer's/seller's profit. Half of the cost they paid is shipping. That leaves 25% of the cost for material and labor. I'll leave it at that !!

How much of a hurry are you in? I have a Hydraulic Whirly jig set up with casters, tubing, and mounts for a 70 B-body. Might be able to catch one of our transporters like Rhino blowing through Omaha heading your way. PM me if interested wink

Just a quick note regarding shipping. When I sell one that requires shipping, I do not supply the long rails because these actually cost more to ship than they do to buy. Keep that in mind if you buy the above unit

Also, when I do supply the rails to a "local" buyer who is picking up, I supply 4 10' rails with two center connectors. This way everything fits in any pickup box.

I have a Whirly Jig I loaned out , and they lost the pipe to tie the bases together . It was over 20 years ago when I bought it and used it . I am rehabilitating it and selling it locally to a friend . Is that base pipe supposed to be 2 inch schedule 40 ? I also need to get a new set of instructions I have not been able to get in touch with the manufacturer . I would pay for a copy on a memory stick if you could make one TJP . Thanks , Ron

Those rails are not "structural" members, they only tie the ends together and keep things square. 2" x 2" x .100 wall square tubing is the least expensive option to use there.

When someone wants to borrow an expensive piece of equipment I make them leave a substantial deposit. I find it rather funny that most then find one elsewhere :whistling wink.
Myself I'd rather rent one and if something goes wrong the insurance covers it an no damage to the relationship is done wink

I'll look for the manual today and let you know, might be able to just scan it and email it to you wink beer
