Looks like they're going to take advantage of the 60 degree forecast and open at 11:00 AM. If the weather holds, I'd like to take out the 1320 for its first track day, since it's got almost 600 miles on it and the Drag Mode features turned on after 500 miles.
2021 Challenger 6.4L Scat Pack 1320 100% stock: 1.680, 11.894 at 113.75 (DA 175 ft) weight reduction, wheels, tires, Hellcat air box: 1.661, 11.686 at 115.97 (DA 710 ft)
1973 Challenger 452 ci street/strip [2008] pump gas, DOT radials: 1.454, 10.523 at 126.44 (DA 514 ft)

Guess Capital had some issues the last year or so. Good to see they are back open we had a good time there for sure.

It's gonna be a crap-shoot, even though their FB page says the track will be prepped. For $40 and a decent day in mid-February, I'll give it a shot.
Things to keep in mind... - I haven't been down a 1/4 mile (or 1/8th) in about 5 years, and that was rowing the gearbox in my WRX (but babying it off the line since it was my daily driver) - I haven't been down the track in anything else in over 10 years - Last time at Capitol was in... 2000?
I think the idea that a bad day at the track beats a good day pulling weeds will apply here.
Oh, crap... I need to get a new helmet.

Track prep can be spotty from what I hear. I think that whats keeping most racers away, owner believes a "No Prep" race program will survive. I don't think it will. I have not been there since it reopened mainly because of the lack of consistent prep. They used to have a great bracket program but people are still going to MDIR or Mason Dixon.. Track workers very friendly. I have no idea how to run a track but I think they could do no prep and prep to make everyone happy. I went down to Capitol the Friday night before the Mopar race at MIR this year. They were supposed to run a Gambler's race (prepped track that night). The tube chassis Tempest that runs there fairly often oiled the track down on a burnout. They pushed the car off in front of the staging lanes. The track crew got the oil cleaned up, and then went back to prepping the track. They sprayed the glue down and were following right behind it with an implement tire laid on it's side being drug with a chain...right over the glue. One pass down the lane with the glue, with the tire right behind it. Looping between the two lanes. The tire was literally skipping across the pavement. In the meantime, the group of people with the Tempest were working on "repairing" the oil leak at the front of the staging lanes...while the car continued pissing oil all over the place. Once they got that fixed up, they brought out two butane torches. One person went in from the driver's side, and the other the passenger's side to start heating the nitrous bottles. Mind you this was at the front of the staging lanes with about 250 people standing around in a 100' radius, not to mention the cars in the lanes. When they gave the call to fire, the Tempest proceeded to oil the track down again on the burnout. At that point, myself and the one other guy in the staging lane for the Gambler's decided it was best to call it a night. We both headed back to load up. Needless to say, I will not be going back there any time soon. Also, for what it's worth, the timing system is off. Don't know if the length isn't right, or if it's just the half-ass portable system they're using, but it's off. Not much, but enough to notice. I would have to go back and look at my slips, but I know my 60's and 1/4 times were funny. EVerything was normal next day at MIR.

Wow... just... wow... Maybe I should spend Saturday working on the "old" Challenger, instead

After what I'm hearing (here & elsewhere), I should probably spend Saturday at home spinning on the '73 instead of going to Capitol and spinning on the 1320. Pi$$er...

YOU GUYS SHOULD BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.......
A "BAD" TRACK IS BETTER THAN "NO" TRACK
Not wishing them any ill will. Hope they are successful. I've talked to some local guys about what they are doing. They have their niche. May not be everyone's cup of tea.

A "BAD" TRACK IS BETTER THAN "NO" TRACK I hear ya'... haven't ruled out going, but I need to reset my expectations EDIT: Tony, you're right. https://www.facebook.com/LandOfTheHurricaneI'm going, even if the conditions are "less than ideal." Show the track some support, start getting back into the routine, learn some about the new car... it's all good. And I still need a new helmet!

Just saying..... my closest track was E town (93 miles) now my closest is probably Island (90ish miles) and Lebanon (125 miles).....BUT my favorite track now is Cecil...(190 miles) I wish i had a track real close to me, and i hear you guys... Capitol has had a bad reputation and it may seem like a bad place or sketchy...but i would take it if it was in my backyard. Good luck and happy ET chasing/racing !!!

Quick update and I'll probably post more details later.
Yes, I went to Capitol today.
Yes, a bone-stock & full-interior Challenger 1320 can run in the 11s.
Yes, the DA was very good, but not "mineshaft".
Yes, the track was prepped, but it didn't hold up.
