I would becarefull on believing Indys claims on flow numbers.I know first hand what thay told me on flow numbers on my hemi heads were inflated. I had two shops flow my hemi heads and could not come up with the numbers Indy claims.
talked to russ over at indy today.he was zero help. he was very short, and really seemed to care less.i have bought over $40,000 worth of stuff from them.you would think they would show good service to a good customer,NOT.i guess their flow claims are just marketing ploys to get you to buy their sh*t.the next one i do will have B-1 heads! i would do it now but i already have my custom pistons, manifold, and new 1.7 jessels, that wont do crap for theese heads, since the flow drops so much between .700 to .800. big azz waste of money.......

Those heads, done right, will generate 950 hp or more. That is with a tunnelram, etc. I have seen 2800 lb packages go 8.50s up here in MN My heads flowed 378 cfm, when i posted the 8.77 at 3000 lbs on alky, single terminator. My cam was a .760 lift, so figure I was only using flow up to .700, about 369 cfm at .700

I think you need to not panic just yet. We dont race flow benches. While I agree they do not seem to meet the advertised ratings they will still make some power.

found the problem with the flow.i had my flow bench operator talk to dwayne of porter racing heads.the operator did not put the bolt for the jessel stands in the hole that is in the port.that is what caused the high swirl, and low flow numbers.with the bolt in, the swirl was almost half! the new numbers are: .100 68.2 .200 124 .300 174 .400 236.4 .500 306.6 .600 357.2 .700 376.5 .800 388.9 exhaust was 304@.800 with a 2" by 4" tube.i will use a 2 1/8 2 1/4 step header.he said the exhaust flow might go up with the larger header size. theese numbers are untouched, the way i got them from indy. i might be able to get alittle more with some minor port clean up,but im going to leave them alone.its just a street car anyway.thanks for all the replies, and thank you dwayne for your time and help.

Thats good news! I learned some things from your post so glad things worked out for you. Still not 395 cfm but 388 is close enough!

A very simple "Potential" formula is 2.2 HP per intake port cfm. Its a fairly close estimate +/- 50 hp or so. But, your flow numbers at .400 and below are something to be considered also, mike.

Well you should be able to make some steam with 388cfm and 588". Dont get caught up in the numbers game, when it is all said and done how the car runs is what is important.

"Sasquatch" AKA Todd Marsh--Marsh Performance has a fantastic Nascar porter near by--He has done LOTS of Indy heads and can out do the CNC ones by a mile. He dislikes the 572 heads but has been able to "improve" them enough so that Todd is making 1000HP anytime a customer has the $$ to build one. Makes me wonder though--why kill yourself( and your wallet) to build that for a BRACKET car. Dash ones, easy on parts old style roller, 800 HP and race it until you retire.

i've read that before about the 572-13 heads, seems alot of people dont like them, and like 440-1,s better.whats the deal with them? i thought they were made for the 4.5" bore.this motor is going in a street car,i dont do much racing.the track is 2 hours away. thanks for your input

I think the deal is this; the 440-1 heads will show better flow numbers and increased power when you go with a large bore (4.5), not hard to understand. The 572-13 came with a valve as big as you can reasonably put in the 440-1 casting, then there is the optional 2.35 intake, but you still are saddled with the same casting, valve length, etc you have with the 440-1. Once you realize the power potential of any wedge head is the length of the valve stem, (limits port shape) you can understand why this head will have a performance limit higher but still close to the 440-1 if both styles are taken to their limit. At that point, if you want more power, look at the valve lengths of the B-1 heads, and the brewers, They dwarf the 440-1/572 deal, at least the brewer heads do.
