For a street 4.5 bore NO way I would go 572-13 They make 4.5 bore pistons for use with dash ones--Indy ( better yet Todd ) usually has them in stock--That would be a killer set up and run fast enough to scare most anyone--No matter what the HP numbers came out to. Just my worth

I think the deal is this; the 440-1 heads will show better flow numbers and increased power when you go with a large bore (4.5), not hard to understand. The 572-13 came with a valve as big as you can reasonably put in the 440-1 casting, then there is the optional 2.35 intake, but you still are saddled with the same casting, valve length, etc you have with the 440-1. Once you realize the power potential of any wedge head is the length of the valve stem, (limits port shape) you can understand why this head will have a performance limit higher but still close to the 440-1 if both styles are taken to their limit. At that point, if you want more power, look at the valve lengths of the B-1 heads, and the brewers, They dwarf the 440-1/572 deal, at least the brewer heads do.

thanks for the reply greg.why would indy waste time with a new head? are they really the same? i noticed the largest port they offer for the -1,s is 345 cc. the largest for the 572-13,s is 385 cc. what gives there?
the next one i do WILL have b-1,s on it!

I run a 572 572-13 street engine with 10:1 compression. I use any 93 pump gas. It has a solid .660 roller and been to the track a few times. Not the fastest but what do you expect for shifting at 5800 rpm and running pump gas.

Best has been 9.74@139 full street trim.

I wouldn't get discouraged about what you have to work with. This motor will make a ton of steam, it will just have its' limits, like everything else. personally, I don't have a clue where a person could use over 900 hp on the street, which is what you have the capability to build, even with a few restrictions like compression and cam choice. I say enjoy what you will get, as it will be a whole lotta fun!!!
P.S. The various port volumes are what work best with each heads intended purpose, roughly. My castings are opened up to 365 cc for alky and high rpm.

I dont think you will make quite that much..thats really for a full boogie strip-only set up. My street B1 motor made about 800 hp and 740 tq . Thats 12.5 CR and a street roller with .713 lift and 280 dur at .050. The heads flow around 400 cfm just cleaned up. May be able to get another 50 hp with some tuning. So, I think you will be in this same neighborhood with your Indy motor. I agree, you will have one nasty street car with enough torque to pull tree stumps!!

i dont have as good of heads as your combo, but i think it should do better than 800 hp. it was at about 800 hp before i made changes.i will know in about 3 weeks when i dyno it .i will post the results.
my new motor specs:
580"
14.2 cr
.800/.751 282/290@.050
388 cfm 572-13 heads
1150 dominator
440-3 intake
2 1/8 2 1/4 step w/ 4" collectors
1.7 rockers
7.100 rod / steel
i was hoping for about850-875 hp.

Oh yeah , now that I see the rest of your combo, i agree! You will be very very close to 900! +or- 20 hp, IMHO.

Your combo sound great and I also think it will make 900hp give or take. I just think that it does not sound like a street machine. I think you have an all out engine.

yeah i know. the only reason i say street car is that i drive it mainly on the street.the only bummer is the drums of race gas that it goes thru other than that it is very streetable. it idles good, 900 rpm. it drives good. it never overheats.its alot of fun. its a 4 sp car with a dana w/ 4.10,s. im sure that helps alot.
