Doc is trying to ensure whatever he uses meets spec for warranty purposes. I think (Doc knows this topic better than I) there is a specific Mopar spec.

Those were suggestions given in the previous thread where proc asked the same question, and he didn't seem to think they were good enough choices.

I hear ya lMop .... and if there was a CLEAR REASON WHY it’s the specific SRT oil only ... I wouldn’t very debate this.

But PacMan..... that certain 5 number spec and the SRT logo .... I HAVE HEARD ... is just payola !

I’ve talked to a few dealers and no one can really explain the need for that spec ....

PLUS .....

Look at the oil fill cap .... it says NOTHING about ANY SPEC other that synthetic and 0-40.

mopJ .... thx for your serious observation. Please refer to THE ABOVE post.

I bought FIVE 5ers valvoline last year ... I’m now THIS MONTH going to be on my last change. Those 5ers are supposed to have been dropped.... ALSO same same for the SRT PENNZOIL....

I need a new source

Ok, now I think we may be getting somewhere, gonna make another attempt-- are you just looking for a well built synthetic that can be acquired easily and at reasonable cost?

If this is the case, Mobile or Amsoil is going to keep you safe. It will NOT affect your warranty. I would caution you again, use that weight oil only. Do not "experiment" with other weights.

No one touches walmart for their Mobile prices-period. Amsoil- thats another story. Somebody on this board is probably a dealer and may pass their savings on to you.

I will also restate that I do not have any websites or research paper proof from any dealer, only my own experiences and then the ones culled from several different internet forums.

Why do you refer to it as Mobile(sic) ??

Keep it simple Doc. Use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W40. This is the oil that is recommended by Chrysler for SRT engines.

Link to the SRT page on the Pennzoil website:

https://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/performance/automakers/srt.html

Link to the spec sheet for Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W40:

https://www.shell-livedocs.com/data/published/en-US/aadaa832-2ac1-459c-84f2-bf5f46e23433.pdf

I'm sure you can find this oil on sale at Wal Mart, Kmart, Autozone, NAPA, etc.

Good luck.

W guy .... WHY isn’t SRT and that specific spec number mentioned on that oil cap(there’s room) if that was critical? They use the word RECOMMENDED .... not the word REQUIRED or MANDATORY. Words mean things!

Again ... I’ve read some other articles about the SRT logo and that spec number.... many people think it’s just a matter of PAYOLA to Ma Mopar to get that logo or spec #.

When I say Amsoil I am pulling together everything I recall reading and hearing over a lot of years and trying to weed out other stuff and Amsoil is what I come up with. Maybe it's $3.00 more a quart or something like that? I don't know but that would be about $25 an oil change? Is that really a big deal in the big picture?

Here you go:

https://www.amsoil.com/p/signature-series-0w-40-synthetic-motor-oil-azf/

$14.19 / qt. You figure out if it's MS-12633 certified.

But if you really don't care about the warranty, just run by the nearest skippylube, select the re-refined oil and make bank.

Anyone got a WORTHWHILE reply other than that troll from Fort WORTHless ?

Here’s a topic about the 12633 spec ....

Lots o Moly ? ... For what purpose? ... cam and lifters ? The MDS ? ... specifically WHY ?

Hell ... if it’s THAT NECESSARY... I’ll buy it in 5 gallon pails !

I don't understand why just for the 6.4's? It says the 12633 for frequent short trips. Also is it only in 0W-40?
