2nd or middle harness.....pull it and draw is zero..... now...hmmmm

Agree... will pull ignition switch cable next. Its the middle firewall harness that kills the draw...



You are making assumptions when you say "works fine". Something is not working fine and until you physically disconnect EACH item on the list and check you cannot assume it "works fine".

For example, your ignition could very well draw 7 amps in use, but is still drawing current when it should be off. So while it make "work fine" in start and run, it should not be drawing current at all in off. Until you disconnect it you won't know. [/quote]

Factory radio? You also said the wipers are not working. Have you unplugged the motor and the switch?

Factory radio, was set off for refurb to factory standards works....

Unplugged the motor. Not the switch...yet- next

Unplugged both ignition and turn signal harness ( 2 large flat plugs)--- no change

You got to try something. At 7 amps what ever it is should be warm to the touch.

Ok, now stop right here.

You already found something that indicates the problem area. Something wired in to this connection is potentially the issue. Either that or it's the feed to the problem.

What does the schematic in your FSM say is connected here?

Unless I am reading the wiring diagram incorrectly, the middle bulkhead connector has:

Ignition switch #1
Ignition switch #2
windshield washer
turn signal switch
ammeter
temp gauge
oil pressure gauge
alternator

I'd leave the bulk head connector disconnected, make up a short jumper, and go through the terminals one at a time until you find the culprit. You are absolutely going to need a wiring diagram unless you are one of those lucky ones and just fall into it. There are two blacks in that connector, one larger than the other. That's the one I'm betting on as there is a splice on the passenger compartment side that feeds a bunch of things.

Just remember the alternator wire and the battery wire are tied together through the ammeter.

Looking back on what is on that bulkhead. Washers. Do the washers work? I know the wipers have issues.

No they do not... the wiper is one of Jules last and I have disconnected on the top bulk head connector., I need to disconnect the switch..tough to get to...

Disconnected washer pump.. no change

You can just bypass it like on the trucks right? I bypassed the one on my truck with a brass bolt and nut and wrapped in electrical tape. The amp gauge is pretty useless in these probably anyhow.

Did you pull each fuse one at a time or all at one time.Sometimes a draw can be a combination of 2 problems. Just a thought.

Well after going through the starter relay and starter it appears its the ammeter feed.... no need to dissect that.... jeeez
