OK. STILL aint out of the woods. Got a new electrical pressure gauge, installed it. It reads 45 psi cold startup. Before all this, cold startup ran the old gauge up to 80 psi cold, 20 plus psi hot idle. So, i get a mechanical gauge, put THAT in (to keep the tube short its located next to the E brake handle. Just fired THAT up, it reads 25 PSI cold start. What the hell am i missing here? What have i screwed up ? theres no knocks or any lifter noise. the pump shows no wear. the overpressure bypass on it isnt being held open by anything. im not too interested in running it up to temp. til i understand whats the problem here. Maybe the FIRST gauge, that failed, was off since new. Ah, man. I think ill have a pot brownie and a beer and let it sit til tomorrow.

Your drill motor may have turning the pump faster than the drive gear off the cam is at idle, which in turn could cause a lower pressure reading.
Your current pressure readings may indicate something was lacking oil when the lifter was out of it's bore. How long did the engine run like that ?
