What is this "Opening Day" you speak of??? Never been there. The usual goal is to make it out by Memorial Weekend. That might not happen for me this year, as Midwest Drags starts on that Monday. IF HEMI Joel keeps goofing off, and not working on his car, then I might be able to make it out. Oh yeah, that is IF I get my engine back from the machinist. It's been there since August.

For us, "Opening Day" is the first scheduled day of TNT & the annual Swap Meet that it doesn't snow or rain out on....For this year Empire opens on 4/24 if weather allows.
So we normally buzz thru the swap meet, and then unload the car, get it teched for the season, and then see how the track is....Its usually blisteringly cold and windy, and takes forever to get a car up to temp, but this year is starting out to be warmer already, so who knows.

My home track Island Dragway opens this Saturday with a Test and Ruin.. points start April 17th.. the Dart is ready to go hope my new truck is here by then to take my trailer there. I really wanted to go to Cecil County for their first Strange Street Car Shootout this past Saturday to run 11.50 index but dealer asked me not to put many miles on my truck in case I trade it in

Dang you guy's need to move down south. Most tracks here are set to start test and tune the last weekend of Feb or first of March. This year they had a few delays due to rain but I got out and tested on the 13th of March and the track had already been open for a while. Come down to the friendly south.. LOL

As soon as the new hood is painted I'm ready. Changed the oil with fresh JR! and cut the filter, all good. Lash is good. Undercar inspection was good. New carbs are set with new spec 5 psi fuel pressure. Made a ladder bar move back down a hole. Anticipating that adding smooth power at the hit without hesitation will stick it. After trying new shocks, slicks, gear ratio, converter I really feel that the 60 ft issues last year were carb related. It sure does sound more responsive. https://www.facebook.com/douglas.wright.1954/posts/2915963605318437Doug

I find that making a "punch list" works best for me. Do a through inspection, make a list and start making them off. Only problem is, I usually keep finding more stuff to add to the list. Opening day around here was a few weeks ago, but I am LONG ago over racing in the cold. I'll be ready the middle of April. Maybe. I retired from my job of 43 plus years March 17th. So far, I'm still trying to figure out how I ever had time to go to work.

At this point, I’ll be happy if I’m ready for the June 17th race at Rockfalls. Cale Aronson of Black Magic Clutches is going to be there, and said he can assist getting my clutch dialed in. I’m hoping HEMI Joel will be ready for Midwest Drags, but if not I’d like to be ready for Memorial Weekend, but it’s looking grim at this point.

Our opening day was 2 weekends ago, for test and tune, and chassis cert. I was there , car worked OK.
This last weekend was 1st points races, saturday and sunday. I lost 3rd round saturday, and lost in semis on sunday. Saturday was cloudy, around 50* to 46*, with a 7 to 14 mph head wind, even a few drops of rain once or twice. Sunday was nicer. Clear and sunny in the morning, started to get all cloudy in afternoon. Sunday , around 56* to 61*. Light wind out of the west , calm to 5mph.

Our first points day ( 4/17 ) was a rain out despite the forecast for it to be partly sunny with no rain, got one time shot though.

Still scrambling....But the car is done at the chassis shop, so i can now put ALL the spark plugs in. This was causing major grief with #7 plug. I go to pick it up tonight and see what the damage is.....I also ordered another fuel pump for almost $550 and it may yet show up in time to bolt it in place and try it. Someone wants the old one, I sent it in for rebuild. LMK....Still a pile of things to do & fix & install before Saturday. The list is slowly getting shorter, but.....
Supposed to get 5" of snow tonight as well.
