At the Historic Sebring road race track, first of three days of SVRA racing, had a nice showing of Mopars, here are 3, the pics on track are exiting turn 17, considered to be one of the most complicated corners in road racing, with the multitude of bumps from the WW2 bomber runways.

Pretty cool but that Charger doesn't look anything like Charger.

Having the weather for it to I believe, with a bit too much wind. Yeah, the Charger is odd looking for a Charger, but that's racing for ya.

Great shots!

The Challenger bodies look great as race cars, and yeah I think that "Charger" is a former NASCAR, maybe cut down a bit which makes it look a little more distorted. I recall thinking they weren't the best looking back when they ran.

What engines do these cars have in them?

Thanks!

The number 2 "Charger" looks a lot like the the 1st round of Chargers on the NASCAR circuit after the Intrepid stickers were replaced with the Charger stickers. I also wonder what motor they were using? Gene

The Challengers are current Trans Am cars. Trans Am series has been sharing weekends with historic/vintage race groups for a few years now.
The Challengers run in two classes, T/A, and T/A-2. The T/A-2 cars are my favorites, they run against camaros and mustangs with a spec chassis and tire.
They use a lot of circle track components to keep costs down.
The top class is T/A, more power, more tire, more aero aids, really fast!
If you get the chance go to an event, the racing is great!
The Charger runs with the vintage race group, old cup cars are a relatively cheap way to go fast, and much fun to watch!

iagree

I'm heading back to the track this am for the two TA feature 75min races today. Yes they are fast, chatting with the corner flag man yesterday, and he stated "these drivers are crazy", meaning they don't back off for any flag he throws up.

To engine question, they look to be the typical SB nascar race motor.

One other observation, this the highest percentage of Mopars i have ever seen compete at a road race event, and they are not back markers, among a bunch of Mustangs, Camaros, Vettes.

Jcc, good to hear a lot of Mopars out there. You got some good pics.

I wonder how these winds are effecting the drivers (assuming they are as strong down south as they are up here).

Lucky you! Totally agree with you, I used to try to get club members out to these events to see Mopars doing something besides drag racing.
I mean its great to see a series where the rules are there to give every make a chance to win.
i hope to get to an event or 2 this year.

Yess it was windy, It seemed to me, it effected their braking points, as approaching a corner on a couple of the high speed straights, they were carrying extra speed into the turns, and resulted in a few exciting spins.

They also moved around a bit while accelerating, but that seemed just to be a traction problem, which went away as they picked speed and DF, they looked "planted", and they got plenty of power, and sound great.

The TA cars, the #43 Challenger driven by Adam Andretti finished 3rd 12 seconds down after 27 laps, behind two Mustangs, he drove well, sorry no pics, my camera battery died.

If you get a chance this year to see these cars run, do so, they are a blast to watch, and are way above the 70's cars in all ways, and still have that stock look, on steroids. up
