It's not going to lower the value as much as it will chase away potential buyers who don't want to undo the color change.

If you plan on keeping it for a while do it the color you want since it probably means you'll enjoy it more. If you're going to keep it for years and drive it a fair bit the next owner might want to do a paint job on it anyway to freshen it up. If you're not going to keep it long do the factory color.

That's what I'm doing with one of my non mopars. RIght now it's white but I already have a few other white cars and always wanted black so it's getting a color change.

At the end of the day, you have to BUILD the car FOR YOU ! . . . if you are concerned about resale, probably keep it original color. If this is the car you really want, then make it YOUR car . . . no matter what you do, there are always people on both sides of the fence - those that like what you have done, and those that don't. It's your car, you do what you WANT . . .

Cheers,

Paint it any colour you want and never mind the purists coming down on you.

While this idea doesn't do anything for the door jams or underhood, how about going back the original color, but get it wrapped in a different color? Change your mind, decide you don't like it, whatever, just peel it off and move on. I guess it could help prevent road rash too if you decide to actually drive it.

Here's a link to a guy who did a '70 Charger. WRAP LINKY In this case, he did the job himself.
