A collage of whims
Grabbed a $30 100W adhesive-backed pan heater from the local AutoZone.
Slipped it under the dish mounting bracket (it's small, about 2" x 4") & stuck it to the backside of the dish.
Just tested it, cleared the ice & snow off the dish in under 2 minutes.
Can't imagine 100W could hurt the dish, even if left on for hours.
Sure beats reaching up to it with a broom or whatever...

I've never had to heat up my dish to melt off the snow. I just wait for the sun to hit it and take care of it. I would have to drag out a ladder to put a magnet mount heater or to use a broom.

We didn't have a problem with the last snow fall so, I don't know. Heavy cloud cover seems to affect it though.

Yes it can, If it covers the dish the receivers cannot see the signal. hence the occasional need for removal. beer

My dish is about 25' off the ground and a pain to get to. I just go out and throw snowballs at it. After a dozen misses I finally hit it and most of the snow gets knocked off!

All I got is the 2 1/2 Men episode (Weekend in Bangkok with Two Olympic Gymnasts) where Alan falls after trying to adjust the dish.
