went to the last bracket drag race on sunday at sears point
they are no longer doing the bracket race series
not profitable enough
only nhra
wed.nights for next year but not sure after that
road racers are taking over
looks like the end of an era
to boot they only let us run in the 1/8
at least i turned in by best 1/8 mile at 6.40 at 110
looks like redding and sac will be busier

Wow - bad news.
Used to run there, up to a few times a week, in the '90s.
A buddy's had a shop there for decades, as have a few other drag racers, which was really handy.
They used to put on a BBQ for Friday Qualifying and invite the track workers - good times.

Sucks for sure. I have raced there plenty won everything from bracket races to Mopar races to Divisonals there. Dave is closing Sac every year, wish there was a real answer to what Sacs plans are. I just assume he is boing Dave and creating buzz to get business. Redding is a nice place, tougher for really fast guys to negotiate but still cool. Samoa is in the "sticks" but a cool place. Bakersfield is an option too I suppose.

I was there as well and got down to 4 cars in Super Pro, just missed the tree with a .030 against Marco and his dragster to make the final. I was really hoping to take that big check to hang on the wall as yes this was the last weekend bracket race and doubtful there will be anymore ever, I have raced out there continuously since 1998 and prior to that '84-'85 before getting married. With Steve Page retiring and a new leader coming in I sure hope Wednesday nights stay, time will tell.

Video on this FB post, my 1st pass in this car since July as the '68 Road Runner has been doing most the work this year: https://www.facebook.com/keith.rich...6&notif_t=feed_comment&ref=notif

It’s really quite odd actually... there are TONS of cars, but participation seems to be hit n miss. COVID is really going to put a hurting on this hobby. It’s also a pita to tow to some places in SoCal which I’m sure has an effect.

The old track in Vegas was kind of a dump... but it was small, low maint, and fun to race at. These huge “mega” tracks aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. I race at Vegas maybe once/twice a year. Their program is run in the day and more times than not it’s HOT!!!. Of course looking at my level of participation this year, maybe I’m part of the problem.

I ALWAYS wanted to run Sonoma.... just to add it to the list, but it’s prob a good 10-11 hr pull for me.

Here is the flyer Kyle has put out for the last 3 years since taking over when his mom Georgia retired. Again with Steve Page retiring his replacement would have a tough task for who to hire to replace Georgia and and now Kyle as there fair & honest way of racers running a track, they are both legendary in what they have done for bracket racers over the years. That all being said interested to see who takes the reins over on Wednesday nights. This year I took my low 12 second Vette out for over half the events despite covid and wearing a mask 100% of the time while on property. The Wednesday night program was well attended with probably a 250 car average, I raced the Challenger on Sunday with mufflers and plan on making as many if not ALL Wednesdays with that car or the Road Runner in 2021.

Sad to hear. Sad, because we local racers, (Mpls-St Paul 13 county metro population 3.65 million), have had to tow 225 miles round trip, since North Star Dragstrip closed in 1979. It had nothing to do with support, and everything to do with urban sprawl.

I got in trouble with my Valiant through the mufflers at Sonoma on Wednesday night. Had to keep the burnouts down to a dull roar. Scott Browns mufflers 4" dumps at diff car went 9.0's 150 3470

I run Dynomax bullets about 12" long with turnouts on the Challenger, when they were turned out I was asked to leave, went back to the trailer and swapped them side to side so they point at each other and that seemed to do the trick albeit I am right at 115 and have to do 5,000 rpm burnouts and hope another loud car is not alongside. I had put them on the Challenger a month or two back anticipating hitting one of the last Wednesday so left them on for Sunday. Thinking I am going to get a set of 3.5" Flowmaster Delta Force 40's and put them on the road runner in the same fashion, that or put it back on the street.

I didn't go to the track here (Firebird) at all this year. The virus rules made them do all sorts of stuff like limited amount of cars and stupid gate prices for the events they did get to run. I know someone who did race a few times and attendance was way down. I bet they were lucky to break even let alone make a profit. Hopefully it will bounce back.

Misspelled by me Samoa, really need to proofread more smile Its in Eureka, awesome scenery for sure as the track is on the peninsula between Humboldt Bay and the Pacific. Its right next to the Eureka Airport, should be right up your ally Cab smile I have some friends who run the bracket program up there.

Thanks Al for the help on its location thumbs I thought it was further south. I didn't know it was their. I've flown into that airport several times while working for my old job, it was always foggy on landings and take offs whiney
I'm confusing it with another closed track down there with a different name realcrazy

Fontana never even opened this year... I’ll bet it’s gone. At least Famoso is surrounded by good neighbors. Can’t see it going anywhere in the near future.

. the club series, when it did finally get started was well attended. Kungflu did hurt them in the pocket book early on with canceled events.

We support racing here well, they said it came down to, they made more money running the road course instead of drag racing, the 2 are connected.

How many drag strips does California have?
I know we have 7 in Michigan for 10 million residents. Ohio has 12 with 12 million residents, Indiana has 9 tracks with 7 million people, just to list tracks in this area, and they sit closed not making a dime half the year because of weather. California has 40 million people, i would expect they should have tons of tracks if people support drag racing

You need to remember that not all California like racing of any sorts, even though the roots of NHRA started here back in the 1940 and 1950s.
Dang the enviormentlists (SP?) down We need to take all of them out into the desert and tie them to the pucker bushes and use them for snake and Coyote bait or take them to the forests and tie them to the trees and use them either bear or cougar bait grin whistling

Blaming environmentalists is a cop out. The fact is that the land is worth more for housing than for racing. Too many people want to live here, unfortunately - and they multiply like rabbits.

I put the blame where it belongs, the environmentalists in SO CA have been involve in every race track, not just drag strips, and private or small community airports closed in SO CA since the late 1960s rant
I haven't been by the old Lion Dragstrip near Long Beach, CA in a lot of years but others I have talk to say it is still there with freight container stack up all over the property is was built on and owned by the port of Long Beach. They, the port commissioners, closed it due to noise complaints rant
Your correct about growth, urban sprawl, causing a lot of those closures due to people trying to move further away from congestion, high density developments, crime and pollution shruggy
Time to close the borders and force all the illegals out to cure some of our problems like these up twocents boogie
