I first cleaned and degrees the arms looking for paint and inspection marks. The only thing I came up with was orange paint on one of the adjusters and white paint on the other. I then sprayed them with Eastwood Detail Gray. I then masked off the iron end that goes into the ball joint and the adjuster finger. I shot those with a combination of Spray Gray and Satin Black paint (I lay the black down and then spray the spray gray over it. I do this to darkin up the Spray Gray)I put on the inspection marks. Mask off the "dip line" and shoot the Krylon Battery Protector. After all that I shoot it with the Matte Finish to take the gloss away.

The strip of metal in front of the LCA is a sample of what 1) cosmoline 2) Krylon Battery Protector and 3) Eastwood Gold out or the gold cadmium paint looks like next to each other. All of these pictures, the flash makes the paint look shinny gold and metallic. It's not. It looks real good.

I like contrast. One of the reasons why I painted the iron darker that the steel part of the arm.

Last one....They look much better in person but I think you all get the picture. Thanks everybody for all the help!!

I like powder coating!! Last a very long time, will not rust and easy clean up. The colors that they have now a days are very good with many choices. You can see a difference between powder coating and paint but there is not that much of a difference. What you can do is both powder coating and paint over the top. Powder coat the lower control arm and then go over the top of it with the Battery Protector. That will work even better than what I did.

Can I ask where you picked up the Krylon Battery Protectant at? It's not on the Krylon website (part #1307???) and I went to all the auto parts stores and lumber yards around here that stock Krylon products and couldn't find any.

I have a set of arms that I painted with ppg delstar clear with flattening agent added so they look like raw stamped steel. I want to do the cosmoline look over the clear coat.

I bought what I thought was 1 can for $19.95 (I'm thinking these pigs are robbers!) then I get a case (6 pack) in the mail ($3.32 per can).

I wonder what the shelf life is?... The way I'm going, it might take 50 years to use 6 cans.

I had to order it through the dealership paint supplier. It cost me about $6.00 a can.

Interesting reading and nice looking work. I'm not a resto guy but know that on a car to be DRIVEN that paint will be "road grit blasted" off in days. I powdercoated all my frt suspension the cast iron color and it's held up to to years of near daily driving in good weather. I even powdercaoted the T bars.

Powder coating then spraying over with the Battery Protector sounds like a good plan.
