From 4.15 stroke x 4.500 bore and 528 cubes, new combo is 4.315 stroke and 4.5043 bore for 550 cubes. 6.86 long Molner rods with 2.2 rod bearings replace the 6.965 long h beams i had, which allowed the offset grind to 4.315. Same pistons, but they were coated by line2line to take up the .0043 increase in bore to clean up the cylinders. The heads were cut a total of .040+ to get them straight again and get the chambers down to 62 to 63 cc. I had originally ordered these heads cut to 62cc but i strongly doubt it was ever done as they were measured at the shop and came up 67cc. So much for trusting what you are sold! So all these years i had a lot less compression than i thought. The added cubes and .040+ cut will bring it up about 1.2 points. Same heads, 440-1 ported with 2.30x1.78 valves, 3x intake, 284/296/114 duration cam with .870 gross intake lift and about .810 exhaust. The intake flow is 399 at .800 lift. Exhaust is 300 at .800. So the changes from the old combo to new are 22 more cubes and about 1.2 compression ratio change bringing it up to 15/1. I am looking for about 30hp. Realistic? I am stuck curently waiting on cometic .027 thick gaskets, said to ship 7/1😒

At 1.5hp/ci........ just the cubes would be worth 30hp.

I had originally ordered these heads cut to 62cc but i strongly doubt it was ever done as they were measured at the shop and came up 67cc. Haven’t those heads been ported at least a couple of times since you originally bought them? Probably got some chamber mods along the way, and a valve job or two. If the chamber volumes weren’t checked after each of those processes...... who knows how and when they went from 62 to 67...... or if they were ever 62 to begin with. I just freshened a set of aftermarket Pontiac heads that had cnc ported chambers. Over 3cc difference between the two heads. The only way to know what you have is to check it.

Dwayne i hear what you are saying. Thats why i have no clue for sure how close they were to begin with. They started life as bowl port and chamber work with 2.19/1.81 valves. Then i had them fully ported and 2.25 intakes put in. Lastly they went to 2.300 intakes and 1.78 exhausts. This last freshenup they were due and it showed a bit. They were warped also. First cut didn't get it so a total of three cuts were done. .005, .010, and .030. So on top of everything else i needed new pushrods.

Wasn’t there a replacement of the seats type thing done when the valves went to the 2.30/1.78 combo? Just wondering if I’m remembering that right.

I am hoping this whole deal somehow hits a sweetspot so to speak, since the cam was cut with the idea there was 1.2 points more compression and supposedly the 3x intake was a bit big for 528 cubes?

Greg I ordered my Cometic Gaskets off of 4secondsflat and he said they were running very slow (19days). He called them the second I hung up and I got them in 22 days to my house counting weekend days. So it may not be as bad as you think.

I thought I read where someone who installed 2.30 intake valves in some -1 heads....... did some seat swapping........ and I thought it was yours....... but apparently not. Or...... I only think I remember reading that........ it gets a little foggier every day.

With these questions of chamber volume coming up, i figure i should take a head in and have a chamber cc'd, check the volume on an intake port, and another intake port flow test so i have numbers for these heads as they are today. I don't know why i didn't think to do this earlier, but better late than never.

Sounds like a good plan.
My suggestion is have one cylinder from each head flowed, and a different one from each head....... and one left and one right. So, like 1 & 2, or 1 & 6, or 3 & 4, etc.

Sounds like a winner. Have an old set of my B1 heads(small port) going together now that should be on the dyno in a couple weeks, waiting for head gaskets from cometic after waiting on a block forever. Combos are very similar you have a bot more cam, compression will be almost the same it sounds. Be interesting to see how they comapre

If you look at the front of the Milodon oil pump, you can see the blue cap on the unused second oil intake. I had no luck pulling a prime with this pump and suspect the capped port has a lot to do with it. The port is about four inch from the cap end to the opening for the pump gears. Thats a lot of dead air filled space. I cut a 5/8 diameter bolt up to fill that four inchs. I hope it cures the no prime problem.

So that puts them coming to me this week. I guess we will see.
