R.I.P Bill Wither. Enjoyed his music very much. One of my very favorites was "Just the two of us" on Grover Washington Jr.'s 1980 "Winelight" album. Ironically the other day (Wednesday) I was telling my son about an audio system I had in my 1972 BMW 2O=00=O2 back in 1980 when Winelight came out. The audio system in the bimmer was full on stealth with two 4" speakers in the front doors, two 6x9 coaxial speakers in the kick panel of the rear seat using the under seat as a "box". I made a solid sub-woofer trapezoidal shaped box for the trunk, solid, sealed out of 1" wood. I had two 8" woofers and made a wood package tray with holes for the woofers and covered the package tray with black speaker grille cloth material. You could NOT tell there were speakers anywhere in the car. Then I put 800 watts of amps under the driver's seat and it was kick @$$. Hot day in June 1980 I'm living/working in Jersey across the river from Philly, stopped at a long traffic light at a bus stop. Hot day so the windows are down, rears flipped out and stereo up at a good volume, I look over at the 10 or so people wait at the bus stop and everyone's feet are tapping, a few rocking, heads bobbing and just plain grooving to the music of Philly's own Grover Washington Jr. I told my son that story on Wednesday, played the title tune Winelight twice which was playing at the bus stop back in '80, then played Mr. Wither's "Just the two of us", on the album too, five or six or more times all on this past Wednesday. GREAT memories, GREAT times. THANKS Bill Wither for some GREAT memories.
