Has anyone here put a 4.25 crank in a 360 block? What did you use for pistons and rods? Was a lot of grinding needed for clearance? Looking at putting it in a 65 Barracuda 4sp for mostly hot street duty. What about cylinder heads?

How fast are you looking to go and at what weight. I’m betting the ET difference between a 4 inch crank and the one you are looking for isn’t worth the added issues. Gotta make sure the head is big enough for it too.

I bought one of the 4.25 cranks from Bloomer, used Scat 6.2 H beam small block chevy style rod and custom Diamond pistons. Only a small notch was required for clearance. Thank you, you answered my question.

Rod Bloomer ( BPE ) used to offer them. I was messaging with him yesterday for my stroker deal , and he is having delivery and tariff issues so inventory was low. He had nothing for me in a 2.0 or 2.1 rod journal for my 360 block. Short of having a billet crank made for you , I think you are going to have to get lucky and source a used or NOS part. There are probably a couple that got bought and the project got put on hold for what ever reasons. But new is going to be a problem. Interesting because I messaged him yesterday and he had 4.25 360 cranks in stock but that was not the question.

Gotta make sure the head is big enough for it too. I thought you might have a cylinder head recommendation and per my post it says hot street combo.

Well if I had the extra money and I was going to run a small block of that size I would buy the Edelbrock Victor heads and then I would port them. My budget for now forces me to run a stock valve position head because I already have several sets of pistons to do so. Indy’s big cnc ported 360-1 heads are leak prone and the stock 360-1 would need ported. That’s why I ask how fast you want to go. W8-W9 heads are the easiest way to go fast but then again they will need ported too. My 422 has gone 9.42 with a set of ported 360-1 heads and a solid lifter cam free cam but I’m working on a set of Edelbrock heads that I just hit 325 cfm with lots of porting work and moving the pushrod over but even those heads don’t need a crank over 4 inch.

It's not always just about ET, for example you can run 9s with a 1.6 honda civic if you want to turn up the RPM and strip out enough crap but it would be more drivable and fun with a mild 440 swapped in.
Also the age old question about "is there enough cylinder head" is always relative, an X head flows nearly the same as a 906 head butt plenty of guys make do with 906 heads on a 440 butt an X head or magnum "won't work" on a 426 ish SB? It will work just fine for the same ET butt be more civilized. I saw a 273 2bbl run 10s how come we all don't just do that? Well because a 340 does it easier a 360 even easier than that 408 easier yet...
A 4.25 in a SB is just as easy as a 4.25 in a BB, I would say go for it. However if you can't get a 4.25 right now and want to get to work your not going to miss out on too much VS a 408 unless your car is extra heavy. My favorite street motor I ever had was a 408 in my 99 dak RT, a WOT down shift would haze the tires at 70mph, it had insane power everywhere in the power band. Low speed was up big time VS the 360 with the same top end and there was no loss of power at 6000RPM vs the 360.
Bottom line, a 426 SB is awesome, a 408 is nearly as awesome 360 ain't bad either butt the smaller you go the harder it is to keep it sane.
