In my case, it's all about location. The Kootenays is the land that time forgot. If it's not a Camaro, Chevelle, Nova or jacked up pickup - it's worthless to these backwoods hicks. Tried selling my 45,000 mile AMC Hornet hatchback locally a few years ago. Hardly a peep from anyone, but did get a few retreads stopping by to tell me it has a Chevy engine and a Saginaw automatic. rolleyes It eventually sold on the internet to a guy in Edmonton. He never even came to look. Sent me a check and when the check cleared, he lined up a rollback and away the car went.

My T-top Daytona I've been trying to unload for a couple years. Been asking about 5k. Best local offer I got was $900. (I paid $1250 when it still had a blown head gasket and bad brakes!) I've gone through everything, rebuilt the front end, put new tires on, even had the OE wheels restored. Yup. $900. I'll just keep it. But the people who know what it is want it, they just live in New Jersey or Florida.

The internet has been my saving grace, really. The hardest part is finding that one person who doesn't mind or care about the distance/traveling bit.

My problem is stuff I could want/use is always the other end of the country LOL

Yeah, I have stuff I can't sell. Most of it is small 1962 Plymouth parts and literature. Most people who ever wanted that stuff got old and died.

I have a pair of JBL K-140 speakers that came from the band Steppenwolf. Hard to find and I won't give them away. Also hard to ship as the 2x15 cabinet weighs a ton!

I can never sell pretty much anything I try to sell.

Last attempt was a couple of electric pipe threading machines. Worth way more than I was asking for them. I dropped to both together for a 1/3 the cost of a single new one. No takers. Eventually I will find a person to tell me they will bring me the money on Friday and never see them again.

I just quit trying to sell anything.

My brother has some engine and body parts on CL that are priced right to the end user. I figured they'd be gone by now, but not a single call the last time I asked.

There are the swap meets where you can sell anything for 5 cents on the dollar, and deal with guys who want to build a car with pocket lint and it's your job to feel sorry for them and give them a deal of a lifetime. If they did a wallet/bank statement check at the entry gate half the people who show up would be turned away for having insufficient funds.

I have motorhome I've been trying to sell for 4 years. Luckily the site is one that has a list until sold policy. Mine is priced below every other comparable unit on the site.

I get tons of offers from dealers that low ball - half of the low retail bluebook.

Sell the Shonen Knife CDs to businesses that have problems with loiterers. Play it on an exterior speaker and the rif raff will surely scatter.

Same! The cars I want are diagonally opposite me, in places like CA, AZ, UT....

And of late, shipping rates to send parts across the country has been the deal-breaker on some of the parts I have here.

But, I did sell an NOS Chevette grille, surprisingly, so one never knows...

ROUND TWO......

Last week when I made my donation, I asked if they took paint and insulation. I was told yes as long as the paint wasn't rotted.

So, today I load up my truck, and head down there. Only one person working the donation ramp, (a different person from the previous week)......."uh....we don't take insulation or chemicals.....uh, basically we don't accept anything from home owners". He just didn't want to deal with my stuff being alone I'm sure.

Came home parked the truck by the curb, slapped a "FREE" sign on the pile, and posted the stuff as free in a couple of places online..........

22 minutes later, everything was gone. shock confused

I had BRAND NEW 2X6's in my last load and I couldn't give the stuff away FOR WEEKS. This time it was borderline trash and everything went QUICK. shruggy

I don't get it.

I've got a few totes of car parts that I have this issue with. They are the left overs from my retail days in the early 00s. Every once in a while I'll post them up with reduced prices. Heck, about half of them are now free. Can't get any takers on them but it has been over a decade since I hit a swap meet. I hate to throw them away and they don't take up too much space so I guess I'll sit on them a while longer.

I give a lot of stuff to the local nonprofit, charity, thrift store. It is so much easier than trying to sell it, and it's for a good cause.

my wife and i donate a bunch of stuff to the local goodwill store often.
a TON better than having a yard sale !
the garage, however, is a different story. nothing gets thrown away. in fact, about an hour from now, my one buddy and i are headed to the local grocery store for some shelving and carts that are getting tossed, and some heavy steel racks that will be cut up for "building" material.
once something "goes away" in the garage, it creates a vacuum. hear that "sucking sound" ? laugh2
