Hi Guys,

In detailing my customer's axle on his 68 Charger R/T, I ran across a few markings I'm not quite sure of.

Driver's side axle has a yellow "242" upside down and I know what that is, but below that is a white series of letters/numbers that I can't decode. I think it's the assembly date but not sure how to tell what it means. Best I can see, It's a white "X 11" and the third may be a 2 or an 8. It's too worn to tell. Any ideas what it may be?

Also, the carrier has a "6" and a "3" under the mid rib on the driver's side. Any ideas on that one too? The axle is a 8.75, 3.23 open, 742 case. Thanks!

Cheers

Anyone?

Based on the MMC Detroit site, I know the white "6 3" on the underside of the rib is the final assembly date. But it says it needs to be three or four digits and this one is only two.

And the white "X 11 2" that's upside down like the yellow "242" on the driver's side axle tube is the assembly date reading month, model yr, and week. But for a 68, that seems to be a bit confusing.

It's the original axle, so any ideas? The yellow "242" matches the build sheet axle code as well as the ratio tag of 3.23.

Cheers

That's what my '68 says as well, 242, 3.23 open...

Dave, did you want those Charger scripts?

Yeah, that's the marking I know how to decode. It's the assembly date code I'm not sure of: White paint, X 11 2 and the rib numbers: white paint 6 3.

I found the scripts under the rear seat. Guess when he replaced the top he didn't want them on. So I'll pass for now on them Troy. Thanks anyway!

What's your 68 assembly date show below the yellow 242?

Cheers

My white code wasn't saveable when we cleaned it up. The markings that were were the yellow "D", the "X" with circle inspection mark and the yellow stenciled "242".....

Dave, also, the "242" markings are still good. Could you take some transparency paper and outline the numbers? I'd like to use that as a stencil for mine since both our cars were 3.23 opens.. (Yes, my Hemi Charger was a 3.23 open).

Cheers,,,
