I used some very thick circle track bars (all I had) on a DD 65 dart SB with 002/003 SS springs (came with the springs as a roller) & it rode flawless

If you're racing the thing and need the car to pitch rotate, a smaller diameter bar, wound up to hold the car at ride height, will help. Good shocks can be used to control the movement. If it's not that serious, I would probably be careful not to get too small with them.
Measuring is the best way to determine what you have. .81 diameter is the drag race only MP bar. .83 is 6cyl, .85 and .87 are 318 & 340 V-8 bars. .89 is a big block bar.
They will get weak and sag. Using scales when adjusting them will help get them right and catch a weak bar.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Make sure you don't have a broken mount. Also, I have the .810" bars in my 340 Duster and I really had to crank the adjusters in to get it to hold ride height.

I am running /6 bars in my 68 Barracuda. It has an R1 Block with W2 heads and a tunnel ram so as far as small blocks go it can't get much heavier. I have probably 6-8000 miles on them and they are still doing good.
Years ago I tried some acid dipped /6 bars my dad had and I couldn't get the jack back out lol.

Somewhere I read that the 6 cyl. and 318 bar size goes up one size when they have A/C. Torsion bar sizes.

My moms 1974 Dart Swinger with a /6 auto air conditioning had the 0.850 bars. I put them in my 65 Cuda when I pulled the 0.089 bars that one was sagging.
