I have a 360 Mag in my Durango, am looking for "just a little bit more" out of. I have acquired a set of MP 1.7 roller rockers for a Magnum engine, stock is 1.6. From all accounts, I have to do something with my valve covers, as the 1.7s will hit the bottom side with just stock valve covers. I have heard to remove baffle, (don't want to, because I don't want to turn it into an oil burner) or to take a 2x4 and hammer and flatten baffle somewhat, then it takes forever to pour oil in-- and no guidance on "how far" to flatten baffle; or to find and install MP valve covers as they are a bit taller..... this isn't a show vehicle, and sellers of those are wanting "out of their mind" prices these days, from what I see available
Recently I saw something on Ebay that gave me an idea.... it would mean using 2 sets of vc gaskets but I have those here. someone is selling spacers to raise your VC 3/8", 1/2". 3/4" I think highest he had were 1"/ not saying Id buy them, looks like something that I could possibly make.... just an off the wall idea..... I'm thinking that raising the stock VCs (of which I have a few extra sets floating around) 1/4-3/8" might be just the ticket. Just how much more clearance would be needed for 1,7 rocker arms, vs stock 1.6s? Yes I do have the pushrods and guide plates to complement the setup. engine is otherwise completely stock, other than (unmodified) EQ heads. stock size valves, not the 2.02s.....

I tapped my baffles up a bit. Might not have to tap em that far & if you did tap em up flush you could drill a hole in the baffle at that location to ease filling

Install your stock covers after installation of the new rockers. Bar the motor over at least two full turns and see what makes contact with the rockers and how much contact.
Install with your old cover gaskets. Modify the covers if needed from there.
Assuming just baffle contact will be made you won’t damage anything in the valve train.

Well, if you removed the baffles altogether, how much extra room would that get you? That would probably be more than enough for the spacer thickness. I don't want to remove the baffles, they deflect oil from the pcv system, otherwise it will drink oil thru the pcv

I am saying IF you did remove them how much clearance would that gain you? 3/8"? 1/2"? whatever that number would be that's the size spacer to get (leave the baffles installed and use the spacer).

if you did flatten the baffles you could drill an oil fill hole in the baffle right under the oil fill cap & not flatten the baffle enough to where the cap tangs would not lock it. As priorly said do some measureing first then decide on a plan

Double the gaskets as you stated. Make sure you glue them together and use longer bolts. you thinking that double gasket would be all the extra clearance this would take to accomplish? I was thinking double gasket as in one above and one below the spacer that I saw....

Going from 1.6 to 1.7 rockers isn't that big of a change. Now if you were going from 1.5 to 1.7 there's a bigger difference. It only takes a short time to slip on two gaskets and check your clearance. I'm betting you'll be good.

Going from 1.6 to 1.7 rockers isn't that big of a change. you may be OK as is or tap em up slightly, not enough to mess with the oil fill. As said mockup & see where you are at, might not need 2 gaskets.
