They are all pretty much automated from start to finish. Sheetmetal rolls on one side of the building, boxed up filters go out the door on the other side. The filters dont really get touched by humans in any way that would hamper assembly quality. He said people were concerned about Wix production going out of the country after the Wix/Mann-Hummel "merger". He was assured Wix manufacturing would stay in the Carolinas. So much for assurances. If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I did some servo tuning on the filter pleating machines at the Fram plant near Dayton, OH. It was 15yrs ago but I thought they had a pretty interesting manufacturing process. Very automated. Holy crap, is that filter material itchy if you get it on your skin! Just like fiberglass home insulation material.
