Because of my automated machinery business, I have been in several oil filter plants in the midwest. They are all pretty much automated from start to finish. Sheetmetal rolls on one side of the building, boxed up filters go out the door on the other side. The filters dont really get touched by humans in any way that would hamper assembly quality. I wouldnt worry about the Wix line south of the border.

I had a conversation with an outside rep from a NAPA store less than a week ago. He said people were concerned about Wix production going out of the country after the Wix/Mann-Hummel "merger". He was assured Wix manufacturing would stay in the Carolinas. So much for assurances.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Did they close the plant and move it to Mexico? Or do they have more than one plant?

I did some servo tuning on the filter pleating machines at the Fram plant near Dayton, OH. It was 15yrs ago but I thought they had a pretty interesting manufacturing process. Very automated. Holy crap, is that filter material itchy if you get it on your skin! Just like fiberglass home insulation material.

The plant in Dillon, SC, is supposed to be closing at some point in the not too distant future so I was told.

Well I bought 3 NAPA gold filters this week, made by Wix. One for my FCA Dart, one for my 5.7 hemi, one for my 383, and they all have made in USA printed on the labels.

To be fair, a 57302 fits some weird combination of a few years of Fomoco, Jag and Land Rover engines. Not exactly a top seller. Might not even be made by Wix.
