i need to come up with an in tank electric fuel pump for my charger. it already has a 3/8" feed from the factory sender unit, and a 5/16" return. as i have a new stainless tank, i will be fabricating something, using the sender hole as is, and working through the filler neck hole. also, i will be starting off with a carb, and in the future, going to EFI, so i will have to have a pump that will supply adequate pressure and volume for that, but able to regulate down to 4-6 [?]psi for my initial thermoquad carb. if i get a pump that "should" support 600hp, [will never be that, just want to insure adequate delivery] what would be the best pump for that ? a small walbro perhaps ? i would prefer to go intank if possible without cutting an extra hole, so this will be "building a ship in a bottle" project. THANKS MUCH in advance !

When I did my Charger I used the EFI tank from Tanks Inc. sorry I am no help , the sending unit hole at the angle it is would be bad with the weight of a pump & no support.

i'm not planning to even try that. it would be attached to the sending unit at an angle that would have the pump upright, resting on the tank floor, with a reservoir of some type around the pickup sock. what volume of pump [LPHr] should i be looking for to be able to be regulated down for carb use at first, then powered up for EFI in the future ? i'm wondering if there are any smallish sized pumps available for the import tuner guys that might work ? lots of walbro pumps out there, so if i can get some pressure and volume specs to shoot for, it would give me something to ponder. then, i could decide if it's possible to try an in tank pump, or just a frame rail mount. i like to think outside the box on things, and i'm not afraid to try something that someone may say won't work.

I was carbed & used the Walbro 255lph, 3/8 supply, 3/8 return, it was border line on my low 600 hp with a carb, now that I went EFI I just ordered a 470 lph to keep up with my set up that NOW has 43 psi instead of 6 psi.

well, that gives me something to shoot for at least. i just don't want to hack up my stainless tank. however, i may have to in the end. what part number was your tank, and do they show a good image where the pump and sending unit go ? if i must hack, i may as well copy the design they used, but out of stainless sheet. TIA, and thanks for sharing your info.

I have the stainless tank for an E Body from Classic Industries. I too want to build this once the right way and support 1000+ HP on E85. I went stainless for the tank due to the E85. I need 50 lbs of fuel pressure to keep my EFI happy so I purchased an Aeromotive Eliminator in-tank fuel pump. I purchased a piece of Holley Hydramat (16-112) so I can avoid having to build a sump or baffles. The Hydramat goes from the back of the gas tank to the front (lowest point) so it should always have some portion submersed in fuel. I found some -10 E85 compatible submersible fuel line from Aeroquip to run from the Hydramat to the pump with Parker QC fittings. I need to fab up an access plate for the top of the tank so I can insert the Hydramat, click on the fuel line and then drop the pump in and bolt everything up. I'll plumb forward with some PTFE hose from Fragola. I'm just finishing up another car related project now and the fuel tank project is next on the list.

thanks for those links ! gives me ideas i can use to modify my tank. i like the idea of a hinged inspection door for the trunk floor. that was in the back of my mind, but got jarred to the front in the one link. thanks guys ! i feel better about modding my new tank. i wanted a stainless tank, even if i had to fab one up, so when one became available from van's, i jumped on it. i then started thinking about EFI, so now i'm here.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aei-11540 this is the pump I am running and it is running great with my carb at 5.5psi. [/quote] I saw on the reviews on the summit site guy wrote he just clamped this to the pickup tube on a 73 challenger for an intank conversion and ran wires through thru sealed fitting and it worked great for his Fitech.

thanks Jeff ! that is exactly what i had in mind. the only thing i really don't care for, is the 5/16" outlet. i prefer 3/8". i forgot to ask, how accurate is the sending unit ?
