The stock guage cluster has a space for two 5 inch gauses. Just happend to have two thta are going in other cars for reference. Need to find a bezel if they made a stock one, looks like on fit into this section???? Ron what ya think, can I find one or make one?
Dave
You can make one easily. I'd try to up the dificulty by incorporating the ribs that are one each side. For the edge, get some brake line, bend it to fit, then trim off the back quarter so it fits flush.
You could do engine turned, Carbon Fiber, Chrome, Leather, or something I've seen on a few lately, the cool stuff they use for guitar pick guards. http://cgi.ebay.com/TORTOISE-PICKGUARD-M...1QQcmdZViewItem
I'd suggest making it not too shiny though. Seems that when driving east in the afternoon or other times, a reflective surface can be really annoying. You might also want to check the gauges with front and rear glass in at night. Just like older trucks, you can get the reflection off the back glass into the windshield if all the angles line up...

I liked that firepower idea ever since I saw that Willys.. Hope you left enough material to bodywork the edges! Gas doors are in the JY and Hagen as Ron showed.
You should do a dead on side shot for photoshoppers. As far back as possible and zoom in so it's more of a side shot...
John, I cut as far away as possible, but there is not much room off of the side of the valve covers. If need be, I will use a drummel and small stone for the edges. I can make it look good enough for who its for.
On the dash, thats a good idea, I was just hoping to stumble into a stock one, which I would think may have the edges in it to match each side?????
I will have to search for one. If I can find one that I can paint and match it and just use it, I would be time ahead, if not, keep those types of ideas coming in.
Do you think the crome piece should be rechromed or blasted an dpainted body color or black, ect?

Depends on what style you are going for. Billet isn't going to work for a 60s vibe. Chrome fits better with that era. If you are going with a smooth look, bright color (Viper Green is up there ) and a low stance, that's more 90s style. Go with a more modern and monochromatic look. A stock panel with 2 new race gauges will not work for an early look, that also leads toward a more current look. Here's a stock plate. I think with some effort, you could make a nicer one.

Dave, sit back with a stogie, a shot glass and an open bottle and let this art wash all over you. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showt...r&showall=1PS it's 12 pages, so it loads slow That should get the brain working on what appeals to YOU, which is the true test...

John, good thing you dont ive here, my boose bil and hangovers would rain over me. Yu have it right, sit back and study it, play different music and 'BE ONE WITH THE CAR". Thats my zin.
My thing is this, I absolutly love the stock panel and will find one, even if its just to look at it and say no! I am huge into surf curture(eventhough i outwiegh my wetsuit by 15 lbs ) AND ANYTHING SURF STYLE IF i CAN MAKE IT WORK WILL BE GREAT ALSO.
I just had a sogie, shorty and a scotch, I am all out, but I do have some crown. So I shall go back out to the shop and do some more studying. Man,. I wish I had a mopar buddy close to here.

Dave, just a question/suggestion, and if it's not doable or doesn't meet your preference for the car I'll understand, but do you think it's possible to LOWER the headlights on the grille shell as in my revised pic? To my eye the looks of the front end are improved/cleaned up with the headlights lower in relation to the fender...
Bruce, the only problem is that the headlights are actually the end of the chrome piece and the finish panel for that long chrome. I can go out and check and see how it will look and if it will look OK without the chrome pieces on it.
