That's how I do it every time. I've had the bed off quite a few times.

Seems like it would be safer to just get a couple friends to help lift it off.

i have a friend that has a support tool for use to support a engine on a front wheel drive car when you take out the transaxle,the length is adjustable and it has a loop for a hook made on it,it fits under the lip of the bed,ive used it a few times,it works like a charm with a cherry picker or one arm of a 2 post lift

Wow Jwilli500 I would have never thought there would be a lot of flex!

I think I'm just going to go with people over renting hoist, straps, etc. It's sounding better and better this way.
