We were at Blaney in South Carolina for the last drag race there. That was quite a night.  Connecticut just before it closed. 75&80 last race with Bill running it. Suffolk just before that closed. Probably a few more. I'm glad I was able to go to those places.

Niagara Dragway, in Niagara Falls NY " Niagara Dragstrip (also known as Niagara RacewayPark and/or Niagara Int'l Raceway) was another popular request (what is it with you people in the Northeast?). The track was open from June 18, 1961, through the 1974 season.
Located at Lockport and Tuscarora roads in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on the north side of Niagara FallsAirport (starting-line coordinates: 43.113624, -78.967323), the quarter-mile NHRA track was one of the best in western New York and drew the big names like Garlits and Muldowney. The famous falls are just a few miles southeast of the track; you can zoom out in Google Earth or enter Niagara Falls in the Fly To box.
It became famous with locals for its radio spots containing the drawn-out words "Sundaaaayyyyy Niagara," which is now the name of a popular Web site/message board devoted to the racers, fans, and officials who frequented it.

US 30 was the first track I ever raced at, Assumption was the second. Both have Facebook pages full of old pictures and videos.
People are always talking about re-opening 30. Many attempts have been made, but in the end, it is done. In fact, the guy that owns the FB page has finally stated that any more talk of re-opening will be deleted, and the people should support the tracks that are still open so they don't end up like 30 too.
They were trying to re-open Motion a few years ago too. Not sure what happened, but it died on the vine.
I have loads of fond memories from both tracks, but let's be honest. 30 was a craphole, what made it special were the people and the cars.
Coles County has a motto now. It's a picture of a closed track with "If everyone would just bring 1 new person a year to the track we may never have to see this again".

Our local track ..
been open 52 years , same owner but.. he did not run it all of those years.
When we did have other people leasing the track , we had improvements ..
track got resurfaced , lights got installed , new MUCH nicer area for food and a place to take a break out of the sun
grass got at least mowed too
His idea of a improvement, he had a ET shack built , why is beyond me the kids never stand in it .. too bleeping hot in there
Now, this is a track that will easily turn in 1200 time cards on Memorial day weekend .
Semi-Normal Saturday night we have 75-80 in No-box ..seen as many as 120 cars in just that one class ..
He raised our entry for 2019 , payout has not changed in at least 25 years
