I have never built a small block other than a few mild daily drivers and i was wanting to know is there any place i can buy w2 heads or would i only be able to get used? I wouldnt be totally against used but juat worried about cracks. I have a 340 with dome pistons and .575 solid cam. Is there a better bang for the buck than w2s?

I sold my last W2s last year. Collected them for no reason other than they were there LOL.
P5249769, order from jegs, summit, chrysler dealer.
Chrysler dealer should be able to see if there are any in depot stock, if you can get one to take a second and look on Dealer Connect it should show up.
As long as it's understood what you're getting into, and all that has to change to use them, and you're sure you want iron heads, etc.

There's a few head/engine guys on this forum that may have some for sale. Summit and Jeg's both still have them listed on their site. There's a used set on eBay right now: https://www.ebay.com/i/123437810980?chn=psOtherwise I'd check out the For Sale - Small Block engine section on Moparts, Racingjunk.com, and Craigslist. Whether you buy new or used, I'd have them checked out by someone who knows what they are doing.

You would be a lot better off with using a newer better designed aluminum heads like the Eddy Victors, Indy 360,360-1 and possibly some others that I can't think of now The W2 where developed a long time ago in the early to mid 1970s The P5 and P7 heads are way better than the W2 Better airflow means more power

I have some new in the box W2 heads sitting in my shop. If you're interested I can contact the guy who left them here to see what sort of price he needs for them. WOW!!! Roy Burnett. Haven't seen that name in years. I think it was late 1972 or early 1973 and my dad and I were there for something, and in the showroom they had three 1971 Hemi Cuda's sitting there and they were all purple. I think the price on them was $3100.00 out the door, but they told us they could get under 3k for one and do better if we bought two of them. We had my mom drive down to look at them and damn near had her sold on two of them. Finally, she gave the OK for one and took off. We must have been there all day and in the end, my dad passed, as they were all torqueflites. All I can say is DAMN. My dad still doesn't talk about that to this day.

P5249769.... well they “re-did” the dealer connect parts page so it makes it hard to decipher, but I believe there are 24 of them at the Warren MI depot. I’ll try and confirm tomorrow
$700 list/ $525 dealer net

I bought mine from moparts race parts for sale. They may be an old design, but I would say they work pretty well. I built my 340 mainly out of parts I saw forsale, the only new parts being flat top pistons, rods and lifters. The heads were untouched, so I home ported them trying not to make the port any bigger because of the small engine size. The cam is a solid roller with over 260 degrees on the intake side at .050", and the headers are with 1 7/8 primaries, intake Victor W2 with 2" open spacer (just for street credibility) and a 750 holley. It made 587 hp at 7000 at dyno, and has so far run 10.2 in my light '64 Valiant, but still learning how to use the DN 4+1 manual. Period. I watched another engine builder in 1985 spend months trying to adapt W-2 heads to his SBC. Your combo shows what a decent prepped set of W-2 heads will do.

Just watched your video. Sticks are the best. I think you could benefit from taking some clutch out of it. I can hear it pull the engine way down on the hit and it's beating the tire up pretty good.
You can take some of the hit out with chassis and shock adjustment as well, but the clutch hitting the tire like that is usually too aggressive of a clutch tune.
What flywheel are you using and what's the gear ratios?

Well, yeah. If any Chrysler dealer parts counter can confirm there are 24 of them down the road in the Warren PDC, then yes they should be readily available brand new. Alot of folks don't realize mp was attempting to stay committed to supporting the grassroots racer who had to run a cast iron head. Saying something nice online about MP is like saying something nice about Indy, it's just not fashionable, it doesn't matter if it's true. During my time as an mp contractor I had collected a pair of one depot stocked 769, and one pre-production oddball/engineering sample from circa 2012. They were nice, although the machining on the engineering sample was not 100% complete. I posted about them a long time ago. Here is the THING W-2 heads are easy to find and afford--It is ALL of the other items that you need like the valves--The ROCKER Gear! The Headers, The intakes etc that are going to wipe you out and then when you run it ya go --Ummm..Should have went with something else for sure--They were designed to go faster than the racers were going at that time using a tunnel ram, 4 speed, and a Pot Load of RPM--so in that time doing that job they were better but now?????? No way! Trick Flow SB's coming soon no reason to think they will not change the landscape like the Big Block units have done--You price quality W-2 rockers get it all bolted in then observe the stupid push rod angle on the intakes and you will see for yourself

Chrysler guys won't spend the money on real race parts. They complain about everything from rockers to headers. This is why Dart, and anyone else around wont make [censored] for the Chrysler crowd. They can make more money building another head with early 1960's architecture, increase the port volume and add a big intake valve to make it look good on a flow bench and then market the hell out of that you can use a stock, stamped rocker on it. It will never change.

It will never change. Agreed..... Some guys have ran good with standard stuff but they are few between. I ran w2s with arrow porting for a very short time, went 9.83@134. 3100lb, 727, way back in 06 without trying, the most run of the mill 408, only having a handful of runs on combo..., a good head imop. A lot of people will say otherwise, I don't see it at the track tho, just my opinion.
