Springs are one of those items that can make or break a combination because of quality. Cheap springs with the same specs as a quality spring are just that, and may not do the job well. If it were my project i would call PAC and get a recomendation for your cam. Spend a couple more$$ and you will sleep well.

911 maybe but 924-16 better IMO It is a double that requires guide be topped for seals etc 911-16 is great spring and will work if installed at correct height but our rule of thumb puts your cam choice with a 924-16 Hope this helps

I don't use 911's anymore.

Forgot to mention that there are some big advantages to Beehive springs if you can find one that fits your application. I have them on a 408 with a hydraulic roller and dyno testing has proven the combo good to 6500 rpm.

I would shoot for between 140 to 160 Lbs. on the seats and from 325 to 360 lbs. opened on a flat tappet or hydraulic flat tappet cam Cab, you've been racing almost as long as I've been alive so I will defer to your experience But isn't that a lot of seat pressure for a flat-tappet, at least when considering long-term wear? I seem to recall reading that lobe (or lifter) wear starts to become a problem at about 150# Have you ever seen or heard of a cam that wore the heel off from to much spring pressure? I haven't You don't want the lifter to loose contact with the lobes as it closes, or jump around when the lobe starts to open the valves, correct What I have learned is if you don't try something different to go faster or make parts last longer you won't learn or get better or worst AKA aside, there are many myths in our industry that get repeated over and over, they are not all correct

Good to know, thanks! I'm always learning. What IS the limiting factor for flat-tappet spring pressures then... rocker strength? Side loading? Pushrod deflection? Any thoughts on my 451's slightly reground Mini-Express mushroom? It is now 272 @ .050, .652 gross lift with 1.5 rockers, .014/.018 lash now recommended by the grinder. I have Comp 953 springs at approx. 140# seat, 430# over the nose. Just now getting the car on the road (mostly paint jail) so I have not yet wound it up tight. I don't plan to wind it above 6900. Do you think I might need more spring pressure than that? Over the nose load is what kills flat lifter cams. Seat load doesn't really matter. If I could get 370 on the seat and 370 over the nose I'd be thrilled. But AFAIK that's an impossible dream. The reason you have to keep the seat load down is because if you don't, the over the nose load gets too high. It's called spring rate and it nails you every time. In my case, with an installed height of 1.700 and gross lift of .620 I needed a spring that is 150 on the seat to get 400 over the nose. Only Crane and Doug Herbert had a spring. It sucks when the installed night is so short, but it's also not good to have a tall installed height and no lift. The spring isn't close enough to coil bind.
Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston
