Thx Eldon...
Yea with getting this ready for him I haven't done anything with my cars.
I had ordered a few more things and they came on Saturday.
I used a set of 3" mandrel bent offset pipes ordered from Hedman to get past the torsion bar cross member. They are 23" long but I will cut them down to 18" or so to have tuner tubes built into the system. This will also allow me to remove them behind the torsion bar cross member if I ever need to remove the transmission.
Carb was a 750 that a friend had that worked well. I increased the jets a little and we pushed it outside and fired it off to break the motor in yesterday.
It ran for about 25 minutes with zero issues and better than that zero leaks...Not so sure it may not need just a little more jet installed... work
It did climb to about 205 degrees on temp with oil pressure right about 65#. Lowered the idle back down at the end and it carried about 60# hot.
I have a little more wiring to do inside and need to mount the gauges correctly and drain the air from the oil pressure line.
Install the front seat and finish bolting the ashtray and glove box door on.
I'll take the title up this week and get everything transferred over and get tags.
Driveshaft was ordered Friday and should be in this week. Car was set up to run 7290 joints front and rear so using a 3" driveshaft I should never have any failures. For those who may need to know the new shaft was 45 3/4" but the spring hangers on this car are back 3/4" so I would think a 45" shaft would be correct.
Somewhere along the line I need to drop it off and get a front end alignment...After that he should be ready to take it out and see what the first thing he can break is... runaway

The new gauges are the Stewart Warner Green Line's.
I have them in my 70 and they work great and are easy to read.
The Switch is a separate switch for the electric fuel pump. I have it wired key hot so he can't accidentally leave it on but wanted to be able to shut it off if I needed to...
Once I get the hood back on I'll still need to sort out an air cleaner that stays under the hood as he does not want to cut anything.
In looking at the pics I may also lower the front ride height a small amount...
I also ordered a factory Gold Duster side stripe kit in Matte Black to put back on it...

Sorry to disappoint Shoozy but everything on this since I got the engine back happened in about 9 or 10 days...The other little "adventure" Lets just say I'm glad its behind me and I now know better... nervous
As for the Duster the side stripe package came in yesterday so I'll have to add that to my list.
I still need to button up the interior and dash items...file the title work and get tags...driveshaft should be in this week...drop it off for a front end alignment...put the hood and air cleaner on...
Then it's just nut and bolt everything and make sure nothing was missed...
I have 17 days left so I'd think its no problem... luck
I did notice two drops of transmission fluid on the floor last night so I'm not sure what fresh he!! that will involve... rant

So the driveshaft install went... rant
Seems some idiot ordered a 7290 joint when he should have had a 7260... whistling
Did manage to get the hood bolted back on and the front seat bolted in...
Dad spent some time with polishing compound just cleaning everything up. Turned out pretty decent...
There's little bumps and bruises everywhere on the body...bumpers...everything...But it still makes for a good 20 footer...
Up in the air now waiting for the u-joint...I'll also go over everything underneath...tags are on it...just need a front end alignment Friday morning...
Sure has come a ways from the last pic...

Installed the new rear u-joint and driveshaft...
Topped off the transmission fluid after running it on jack stands for a while...
After setting the front end close Dad took the 1st test ride around the block last night...
Added a little jetting to the carb and its ready for the front end alignment on Friday morning.
Two 20' black marks showed up in the driveway...no idea how... whistling
No pics so I guess it didn't happen... devil

Made a point to let me know the Dart didn't have anything for the Duster...Go figure... shruggy
This week I need to try to get some exhaust on it as the tuner tubes are just too loud...I order a set of 3" Flowmaster 40's for it Saturday night so I should have them by Tuesday...
Next w/e there are about 4-5 different shows he can go to starting on Thursday Night thru Monday...Rain forecasted for all 5 days... rant
Maybe I'll just let him take the Dart since its quieter... work
I'll take the Duster... devil

The engine builder took the car last Wednesday and put dual 2 1/2" exhausts with Flowmaster 40's and tail pipes all the way to the bumper...So I guess its done...Less maybe a set of exhaust tips some time...and I think I want to put a battery disconnect in it...wipers...I guess they're never really done...

He went Friday and had a little bigger set of front tires put on...
He drove it Thursday...Friday...Saturday...Sunday and Monday...no hinky mechanical issues...never got hot in 90 degree temps...
He doesn't know it but I did manage to remove a little rubber from the back tires Saturday Night... whistling biggrin
Gave a ride to the guy we bought the motor from Saturday... he seems to think its in the 11.50's range...
Talked to Dad this morning...he's looking for another car to start on... runaway

I just re-read the whole thread, but didn't see any specs on the engine.
What can you tell us about all the internal parts in the 340? Has it been to the dyno as well? What type fuel do you use? popcorn The Duster looks like it turned out great! Congrats! up

I don't know any of the internal specs.
I bought the motor used from a friend.
340 block with a stroker kit...ends up being 416. Probably .030 bore?
It was put together about 10 years or so ago...
With W2 heads it ran 11.20's in a 70 Dart...he said if he would put it back in he'd freshen it.
Dad bought the short block...convertor and the transmission out of the 70 Dart. It was removed from his car sent out and gone through.
All bearing tolerances were dead on and everything inside looked great. A fresh hone and new rings and bearings is all that was done.
The compression is a little higher now with the Promaxx heads rather than the W2's that were previously on it. I think the engine builder said about 10.2-1. Cam was advanced from where it was installed previously.
Pump gas motor..750 carb...could maybe use an 850. MSD distributor with one silver and one blue spring and black advance pill (18 degree). 36 degree's total timing...
Doug's #453 headers 3500 convertor RMVB 727 with 4.11 gears and 28" M/T ET Streets.
Seems to pull pretty hard. It's a lot stronger than the 340 in the 69 Dart.
No Dyno time...calculating the short block with the heads and the size of the runners and everything the engine builder figures its in the 465-475 range...
All I know is it's all he needs...at 79 he don't need to go any faster...
We got the motor from a member here...maybe he'll chime in with the particulars about the engine...

That's really interesting. Your dad's drive-train seems to be very similar to my Duster's drive-train. The 340 in mine was built about 4-5 years ago, with a Eagle 4 inch crank, and .040 Icon forged pistons, Scat I beam rods, = 418 CI. I believe my compression is just under your dad's engine at 10.1-1.
The builder used the factory J heads, but they are fully ported/polished, with stainless 2.02 intake/1.60 valves, and Indy roller rockers. Camshaft is a solid unit, from Bullet Racing .... 248 deg. duration @.050. IMHO the cam could be a little larger with more duration, but, it's only a street car! Intake is a Victor 340 that's ported/polished too, and a Demon 850 cfm carb up top. Summit electric fuel pump with braided 3/8" lines throughout. I use 91 unleaded ( no ethanol) from the local elavator station.

My trans is a forward pattern MVB 727, and a 3200 stall convertor, with a 4.10 gear in the 8-3/4. Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro 26X10.50" tires.
Don't know what brand headers... Hedman maybe..not sure? 3 inch exhaust to rear bumper. The guy I bought it from, told me the Duster should be
an easy high 11 second car...but I don't want to take it to a track until get some frame connectors welded in first. And a drive-shaft loop as well. My Duster pulls really well too, Have not taken it to the local track, as of yet though.
What are the specs on those Pro-Maxx heads your'e using??
