These are pics of my 64 Belvedere. Remember the car will have a forward rake. This will require raising the front mount to keep the bar level. Also lowering the rear ride height will require raising the ladder bar front location to maintain its current posistion. I agree after a lot of research, its hard to install the mounts to low unless the car sits in the weeds.

Is it better to notch the subframe connectors to accept the ladder bar crossmember like that? I always thought people just buttweld the LB crossmember to the connectors.

I would think mounting the coil overs like that would want to twist the upper crossmember. Is that a common way of mounting them, or would mounting them directly below the crossmember be better?

By putting the tube all the way through the frame, you can then weld it on both sides. I'm not sure if it's common to do it that way, but it's certainly stronger...

The only way that shock is twisting the 1" 3/4" tube welded only 2" away from the frame, is if this car becomes a dukes of hazard stunt double later in it's life!

Mounting them directly below may just become a packaging issue. You gain about 2" of room when putting them on the side like that vs. straight down.

It is a very common way of mounting the shock tabs. The S&W racecars instructions show that you can mount them directly under or on the side, either way is fine.

You can't see it very well, but the shock tab is also welded to the OE cross member. I had worried about this also untill I loooked at many other cars that were the same.

Yeah, I noticed that when I went back and looked at your pictures again last night. That seems like a smart thing to do. I may have to 'borrow' your idea . Thanks again for the pics. Do you have a picture of the front LB crossmember all welded up?

Here you go. I hole sawed it first. Thene cut the bottom piece out. Slid the cross member up and tacked it. Then I welded the botom piece I cut out back in.
