It all depends on how you plan on running the car at the track. You really need to have either the clutch slip or the tires.

My dad runs a 3900+ lbs Road Runner with a 440 and a 23spline stock trans with CF Dual Friction 11" clutch on slicks. But he makes it live by spinning the tires a little coming out of the hole, and each shift, the tires spin just a tad. I'm sure his ET is a good tenth slower due to the spining, but you know what?.....He's absolutely never broke a clutch or stock 23 spline tranny for the past 40 years. Now he only raced about 4 or 5 outings a year, as this is a street car first and foremost.

My plan is the same. Stock 23 spline trans and I plan on letting the tires spin a little coming out and on shifts. Shouldn't be too hard to do that. My clutch won't slip a bit, but the tires will. Hope that works, plus I'm about 600lbs lighter than my dad's car.

the best money spent in the long run IMO is a mcleod soft-lock or advance single disc..They are race clutches but have light pedal pressure and with the base turned up will work just fine on the street...I would go with the advance unit it is l;ighter and will make your car faster. thats my experience..

I talked to my local LS1 builder, and I asked what he runs in vehicles with similar weight, power and traction.

He had really good things to say about the SPEC twin discs and the SPEC Stage 3+ clutches. I didn't even know they had offerings for our cars. The prices and torque ratings seem very good. I'm going to talk to one of their techs tomorrow, and I'm thinking that they will be the way to go.

Read up a little on the LS1 board....some guys have had problems with the Spec clutches.

I'm telling you,...go with a RST and you'll be happy. About $700 or so for on. Not cheap, but a great clutch that will handle the power and be 100% streetable fun!

I am looking for a clutch also with a similar HP rating as yours.
Going to call these guys and see what they say.....

A friend of mine ran a centerforce dual friction on his 93 Cobra with a fuel injected 347. It put down 575 at the tires with the nitrous on 400 on motor only. Went 10.31@128. He didn't have any slippage problems but he did fling the material off of two discs(7000RPM shift point).

I also ran the same clutch in my mustang. It wasn't near as fast but the clutch worked great. Smooth engagement and always held.
