The car looks great..... Did you ever figure out how many of the 72 were painted like this? or was this a dealer addon for a customer request??

Your car is going to be stunning when done!!

Did you use the factory FE5, or Viper red? Regardless it looks beautiful.

Thanks. it's FE5 (thats whats on the sherwin williams paint can)or supposed to be. It was shot in Urethane over tinted primer, and theres some red in the clear too. We had done the engine bay at home back in 99 using a single stage PPG omni paint. He matched the color.

Tom she did ask when I would be assembling it

I used a metalic charcoal grey rustoleum wheel paint, then lightly dusted it with the same brand silver wheel paint. Inset is a better view of the color

You mean about the emblem? I picked the metal plate from the backing cleaned everything, then I ran a dremel with a buffing wheel on the letters. I painted it in semi gloss, then cleared it.
Let it sit 24hrs and used an exacto blade to scrub the paint from the letters (DISCLAIMER not the best method). I may have scratched the chrome a bit but I can't really tell.

A guy over on CC.com just bought a red 72 that also originally had the V21 option. Hopefully he will decide to put it back that way. I posted a link to a couple of your pictures over there.

Your car is looking great. Keep the pictures coming.

I just redid the "Challenger" grill emblem on my car. I put some petrolium jelly on the face of the letters before spraying the whole thing with Trim Black. Once the paint was dry, the areas that were covered in the jelly, just wiped clean. That seemed to work pretty well. Try that next time instead of taking a blade to the chrome.

Darren,
That's what I did for my Plymouth emblem, works great.

The font was kinda small so auto wax would offer more control on this if you were real careful.

This is motivating for me. I have been wanting to see this option in FE5 forever. The pic earlier in this post was a photoshop by a board member

And this a metro "Authentic Mopar reproduction" part Looks like the fit is determined per the careful installation. Only the two upper screw holes were drilled I had to elongate one a little. Then I use a scribe to mark the holes to be drilled while it is carefully held in place.....

That looks pretty good. How much massaging did you have to do to get it on? Was there any point where the trim seemed close to the point of buckling as you formed it into place?
With all the controversy about these parts, I would be happy for mine to look like that.

Wheel lip trim link no massaging. It seems to fit ok but iI also patched the lower quarters so the contour may be off very slightly. I think the better you secure the top and work carefully it will go as well as you like
