Probably this has been addressed before but I have been unable to find a thread. So I apologize if this is a duplication and has already been answered.
I have a 1969 Roadrunner. It is not a numbers matching drive train, but I believe it is at least to be date correct. The Serial Number of the Vin matches the Serial number on the Fender Tag, but not the Engine. Casting Codes and Date seem to verify in my unprofessional view that at least the engine is correct for the car, just not "the" engine.
Is there anyway to tell from the Serial Number on the Engine/Transmission where it came out of or from?
I realize that most of these cars were driven hard back in the day. I had one back in the early 70's, so I have some experience with that. But as these engines failed, were they just rebuilt and thrown into another car and flipped around, or are they replacement engines? Just curious.
Thanks

383, or 440? 383, it will be on the machine part kind of behind the distributor, 400 just like he said big pad in front of the intake.
