I was doing some work under the dash of my recently acquired Charger and came across two cables with pull knobs that were tucked-up in the dash. Since I am in communication with the previous owner of my car, I told him about the find and he stated that he had no idea what they were and hadn't ever seen them in the whole time he had owned the car. He did, however, tell me that the dash pad came from a donor A/C car, so he figured that the cables must have come with the replacement pad.

Here's my question, is there some type of air flow control cable set-up like this on factory A/C dash cars? The only other Charger I've seen before with a similar pull cable set-up had something called the "Strato Vent-option" and it allowed outside air to blow through the dash vents.

Thanks!

My 71 roadrunner has "Strato Vent" and has two cables with pull knobs. These are for the fresh air vents, on driver and passenger side near kick panels. The "Strato Vent" has nothing to do with these cables. The "Strato Vent" does have a vent selection on the control panel to allow fresh air to be blown through the dash vents. Also, when you select vent mode, the vacuum operated heater water valve is shut.

The non-a/c and Strato Vent have vent cables and knobs. A/C does not.

The stratovent is that duct in the middle of the dash, near the ash tray. When you select the heater controls to 'Vent', a vacuum solenoid opens a flapper door to redirect outside air flow through the stratovent.

Those two pull cables are for the outside air ducts on the driver and passenger sides, near your feet. They just redirect outside air from the cowl area to the passenger compartment. That's a standard equipment item and has nothing to do with the stratovent. Someone obviously just forgot to screw those vent knobs back onto the dash for some reason. If it was an a/c dash frame it may not have had the holes for the knob controls...?
