I think it's put up or shut up really, and I cant put up...lol.
I also think Ryan wasnt trying to attack anyone, that was taken care of by the upstanding membership . It does make for some fun reading tho..
Attack anyone? I just thought it would make for interesting conversation. I should have known when you start talking about HP #'s ego's get highly involved, and it got WAY off topic. One thing I will say for sure, this thread is like a train wreck, take a look at the hit counter, it certainly spawned more interest than alot of posts recently. This board would be downright boring without a good argument every once in a while.
Anyhow, I'm off to Michigan for the weekend to pickup my car. StrokedW7 and couple others have moroso calculators so they can keep running the #'s if anyone else comes up with more 59* combos.

NOT that I had anything to do with it, this was the best thread in a long time. Reminds me of the CD/Birdie stuff years back. Other than the bench racing and everyone wanting their combo's calculated on the Moroso, I think it DID stay on track. Ego, I guess, I don't know many racers who like second place. If you do, please send them my way!lol
Eric, if you make it down, let me know. We've got one extra bed, no doggies though, daughter is highly allergic.
turbo, all in fun but yes I'll race you anytime. My bb with no adders against your tt. I don't own any sb anymore...

Im curious as to what the Moroso calculator says my car makes. I did'nt put my motor on an engine dyno, but I did put it on a rear wheel dyno (Dynojet) after I put the motor in the car. It's a 12 to 1 408 with ported Indy 360-1 heads, solid flat tappet cam(278/288 @ .050 with 640/619 lift on 112 lobe separation), Indy intake, 975 CFM race deomon carb. Car made 480 RWHP and is about 3250 lbs with me in it. Its run a best of 6.53 @ 104.7 with a 1.42 60'in the 1/8th.
6.53 1/8 = 10.20 1/4 =555hp at 3250 pounds
for the moroso speed calculater
That would equate to about about 13.5% drivetrain loss...
Steve
steve ...how do you do it ?
my car :
10.80-123 mph at 3470 pound car = 500 hp
( rear wheel )
Based on the calculator your making about 492. So the rear wheel dyno your using pretty much correlates with the Moroso Speed calculator.
Steve
thanks !

The cam is a very simple "base roller" design picked by Lazerri at ICH, it's a 279/279 .680"/.680" on a 108 LSA installed at 108. That cam is 197 @ .200", so it's fast but not ultra fast.
It has a INDY 360-3 intake that has been port matched and some plenum work.
Carb is a 1000 Race Demon.
Heads are INDY 360-2 Oval Ports Started life as their 230 CC CNC version. Went to a SB Ford head specialist in Michigan, he put 2.15/1.625 Ferrea's in them, did a VJ, opened up the intake throat for the bigger valve, and sand rolled the ports and chambers.
Using the INDY 440-1 Cast rockers (1.6's), off shelf 3/8" pushrods, no trick double tapers etc. The springs are actually K motions and checked out at anywhere between 220-245 on the seat, 630-660 open. They have two seasons on them.
And a set of 2" Heddman Hustlers....
That's it.... very basic shortblock, basic cam design, and a set of basically off the shelf heads and intake.
Car weighs between 3050-3060 with driver and fuel.
Best of high 5.80's 114 in the 1/8, 9.40's 142 1/4 mile.
looking this combo over i have a few questions and a few comments.. first Ryan have you CC the intake after the additional port work was done.. how far away from 230 are they' my guess is they are up some? next i think maybe a little less cc intake runner may make more tq. for that cube.. i think the compression helps but was wondering if the duration and center line of the cam could be workded/tweeked a little to make more mph. i say mph ...because i agree that is a more important factor weight and mph over a givin distance is way more acurate than et.. the Density is a factor for sure. wich my be more of a factor with the heads intake runner CC's ..coming from my thought process. i am also weighing Tq numbers in this sinario more heavily than the hp. long and flat Tq mumbers will make the car consistant ...wich i dont think should be a problem (by the way) as far as consistency when it comes to the shoe polish on the window. cheapst. oh and one more thing..i think a strong stiff pushrods will improve this combo. if they are run of the mill...units in it now.

Ryan, What does the calculator say about my old Dakota pickup?
9.77@137 or 138 2925 lbs. 363 cid 59degree W2 heads on alky.
If I had a 3 speed in it, and coulda fooled with it, it woulda hauled.....
I know for what it was it made good power but I never got to run it faster then 10.00 due to no cert.........

Ryan.......U might want to make it clear that the Moroso calculates FWHP NOT RWHP.... I may be wrong...but I get the feeling most on here think its RWHP....which unfo. is NOT correct. We had this debate down here a while back...someone even rang Moroso..got some kid on the phone who claimed it was RWHP.....however other members might want to review the question and response below b4 any of you answer on this... Quote:
Im curious as to what the Moroso calculator says my car makes. I did'nt put my motor on an engine dyno, but I did put it on a rear wheel dyno (Dynojet) after I put the motor in the car. Car made 480 RWHP and is about 3250 lbs with me in it. Its run a best of 6.53 @ 104.7 with a 1.42 60'in the 1/8th.
This was the result of the above request:
Quote:
6.53 1/8 = 10.20 1/4 =555hp at 3250 pounds
for the moroso speed calculater
So clearly the Moroso in this case is revealing a very accurate FWHP
The Moparts Tech calculator is also WRONG where it says RWHP...its the same table as drawn from the Mopar SB book....but someone has typed in RWHP where in fact its FWHP.
Perhaps the Mods could alter this.....???
I get the feeling some may be disappointed with this..but "thems the facts"
See Ryans response here also....
RWHP vs FWHP

Best of high 5.80's 114 in the 1/8, 9.40's 142 1/4 mile.
Based on the Moroso speed calculator it's making around 670 HP at the flywheel.
Anyhow.... Don't see 5.80 114 MPH 59 degree SB engine combos every day.
The car is HOOKING for sure running 5.80's in the 1/8th with 660 on tap at that weight.
Our car runs 5.80's @ 118 and put 660 HP to the tires on a chassis dyno with a SBF, motor made @ 725HP on an engine dyno. It has been 9.001 @ 150 1/4. We came in @ 2800LBS in our car.

71challenger, WOW! and no one has called you a liar or said you used a "happy" dyno?? I bet you'd make at least 600hp on ryder's dyno!lol another interesting point to make about the moroso calculator. It must assume that chassis/trans/convertor etc. are all perfectly optimized?? We found that the high gear clutches in my pg were almost completely burned up and the car still went 9.08 @ 149.75. I can only wonder know what it would've run with a fresh trans???
