Was looking at the article Andy F did on the 470/trick flow combo, where he is running AMC 848 lifters in order to have pin and pushrod oiling. But, comp cams has a new part number of 861 for the AMC lifters. Will these still work in an unbushed 440 block without problems? If so they are a cheaper alternative to running other Chrysler specific lifters with the pin oiling and pushrod oiling.

Anyone with experience on this?

I've also used the 861 lifter. Both part numbers seem to work just fine in an unbushed Mopar block as long as the lobe lift isn't too high. If you are less than 0.450 lobe lift you should be fine.

I've told Comp a bunch of times that they should just use the AMC lifter which they already make as a pushrod oiling Mopar lifter but they don't listen.

Thanks AndyF. In this engine we are not really concerned with the pushrod oiling, but would like the oiled pin feature. Without spending the higher $ for Crower/Comp/Crane ones which have it. I know we could go to BAM lifters with this for the same money as the 861's/829-L combo. But the 861 weigh 136 grams versus 267 for the BAM 1009-16.

Or is the lifter weight not that critical?

This is for a 493 going in a Ramcharger, using a Howard's 722113-08 cam, 245/253 @.050", 277/285, .600/.600" .022/.022" lash, 108/104.

The Comp lifters are 136 grams each but I bet that 267 for BAM lifters is for the pair. So the BAM lifters might be a little lighter than the Comp. You should call BAM to be sure.

AndyF, I am not sure why I didn't think of that earlier given the huge difference in weight. I would think you are correct.
