From what I can tell the electrical connections are in a different spot compared to the original. Anyone have a pic of 1 mounted in car on a SB?

From what I can tell, it looks like the cable would need to go in front of the exhaust instead of behind?

Pull the black plastic/copper extension off.

There are only a couple brands of headers that this type of starter will not work with.

Unfortunately I have one of those brands.

I am building a 440 (Challenger) with 1 7/8" tubes (Hooker). Is this one of 'the brands'?

Someone out there must have a pic of an installed mini-starter. I'm begging you guys, someone go out to your car and snap pic.

Please

I don't have headers, I have HP manifolds.
I also have the JY swap from a 90-something ram.

I could get a pic if that's what your looking for?

Picture from above.

Not a lot of room between the hot lug and the block so install with the battery disconnected. It's not a big deal one installed though.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

I went to a locally owned parts store and their supplier discontinued supplying them with the old style starter. Now they only sell the rebuilt mini starters for around $40. Funny thing is, they will still take your old school core.
I bought one from them, works great and more room!

Lots of folks saying JY starters are a better choice than junky rebuilt stuff, pontificating that OEM stuff of unknown age/condition is surely better.

But where do the rebuilt ones come from? Duh, they come from OEM starters that died.

And don't forget, rebuilt starters find their way into junkyards, too...

As for JY being cheaper? For me the parts store is significantly closer, plus it saves me removal time on the JY vehicle. I take a core in with me and eliminate the return trip. Overall, parts store = cheaper to me.

So I'd say flip a coin for where you get it -- only hindsight shows what's right.

Parts I seek: driver doorpanel, 65 Sport Fury, prefer black, needs to be 7-8 on 10 scale, might buy set 16" x 6" Dodge truck wheel(s), from early 70s?, takes 9" dogdish - need for a research job so cheaper is better. 69-73 C-body caliper brackets and/or splashields Send a PM.

Not for me. The JY I use has them off and they are tested. I have had reman go south too. IMO this starter is as close to bullet proof as they come. Over the years I have used many of them and only had 2 go out and one was a drive after many years and miles of short drive that is prone to going out on other starters with the same short drive frequent start ups and the other was a contact set that is a low buck easy repair and they go out on others as well. Do your own thing. Do what ever makes you feel good. Only trying to pass on a $$ saving info. For me I JY when I can and save a buck spend it else where.

I have a mini on my Dart and here's the cold hard
fact of the matter. When my good ol trusty Mopar
starter died, It took me over an hour and a half
to get the thing out because of the headers and
steering linkage. I put in a cheapie mini that
cranks my high lift cam - high compression really
well AND there is now enough clearance that if I
have to change it again, I can do it without
pulling down any steering components or headers
to do it. If it dies on the road, no big deal
it' s 4 speed and I can push and pop it.

Do I miss the Mopar whine, not really as it starts
so fast now you don't hear the mini.
