I bought one at a swap meet and put it on my 340 dart with no problems. Also put one on the 68 GTX that we have and may put one on my A12.

Its by far the best way to go if your driving one often. They take far less power to turn, are lighter and easier to install, better exhaust clearance, etc. Just a bit more $$.

I actually used the one off my 97 dodge 1500 after having it rebuilt on the GTX.

They made 100's of thousands, so if you watch, you can find a good one cheap.

I think I paid less than $30.00 out of the JY off a Van that had over 300K miles on it. I didn't expect the starter to last long as it looked like the original, but, 6 yrs later, its still working great! To give you an idea just how grungy it was, I couldn't tell it was a mini starter until I chiseled some of the crud off.

For me, I made the switch because its getting more and more difficult to find a quality rebuilt old style starter. Nothing sux more than having to R&R that heavy beast multiple times because it lasts for only a couple of starts.

I miss the whine, but, the short zing is nice.

when you're laying on your back putting it in with headers installed, you really appreciate the light weight. I mean REALLY appreciate it.

I bought one from a salvage yard about six years ago for $45. It had a six month warranty and is still working fine.

mancini $120 mini starter here.

I was miffed when I discovered it was no different than the starter that was already on my V6 dakota from the factory!

oh well, now I have a spare, or rather, I have one for my Cuda when it gets back on the road. it's been turning my 10.5:1 383 stroker without any problem.

I've even used it several times to "walk" my truck into the garage before I had the engine swap finished. put it in gear, twist the NSS wires together, and turn the key, it pulled the 4200 lb truck into the garage without any complaint.

From what I can tell the electrical connections are in a different spot compared to the original. Anyone have a pic of 1 mounted in car on a SB?

From what I can tell, it looks like the cable would need to go in front of the exhaust instead of behind?

Pulled one off a friend's 89 Dodge Van V6 in 2001 that had been sitting a couple of years. Still working today and it was free!

The 1989-2002 Dodge full size RWD/4WD trucks, Dakotas, and full size vans with the 3.9 V6, 5.2 or 5.9 V8 work the best. I believe the later models didn't have the nose cone, which can come out of alignment.

If you go to a pull-it-yourself yard, pulling one from a Dakota is a PITA compared to pulling one from a full size van or truck.

I have two I've pulled from wrecking yards. $20 and no problems.

You can even spy the 1989 or so chrysler 5th avenue with a mini starter on it.

I have 2 or 3 of them and now that I have used them I want one for all my old mopars.

I traded out some labor by swapping out an intake gasket on a six cylinder and I was given two of them.

I run one on my '73 duster and works great. Takes less power to turn over and half the weight.

Dont buy the cheap china made ones off ebay as the housings tend to crack.

I did buy a mopar performance mini in '05, but it's not a thing in the world but a brand new starter like that comes on your '90s dakota.

I bought a starter from a'97 ram for my rat rod from the junkyard for $35. It works fine and its what Id go with everytime.

Pull the black plastic/copper extension off.

There are only a couple brands of headers that this type of starter will not work with.

Unfortunately I have one of those brands.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

I'm using a used starter from a I believe a 95 dodge 360 in my duster 340. Works great and easy to get in and out with headers.

Someone out there must have a pic of an installed mini-starter. I'm begging you guys, someone go out to your car and snap pic.

Please
