i think i just didnt clearance the intake side of the pushrod holes for the 1.6 ratio. but that doesnt explain why the exhaust with a stock 1.5 ratio broke and bent the pushrod.

i think its time for over 500" of fun. ya its a lot of money but eventually im gonna do it anyways.

Did you check the valve train clearances when the motor was on the stand? Pushrod to head, pushrod cup to rocker adjuster, valve scrub on the rocker tip, coil bind, retainer to guide, rocker to retainer, etc?
Small block or big block won't matter. All these things should be checked...

Yea, that sounds like the problem. Putting 1.6 ratio rockers on can cause clearance issues. Sometimes the rub occurs at max lift rather than zero lift.

Metal in the oil? did you check the cam lobes for #5 cylinder. If there wiped that explain alot

Something else I was thinking about was wheather or not you broke the cam in w/lower pressure springs or not. I lost a cam on Pettis`s dyno by using my running springs instead of brake in springs......just a thaught and I hope it comes together for ya. By the way, we completely tore the motor down and re-honed,re-ringed,new oil pump bearings etc.

i am pulling the motor today. if the crank got scorred or dammaged in any way i will be putting a stroker kit in it. if the crank is good i will re-ring and bearing the block allong with probably a little higher compression billet main caps studs and new forged rods. as well as clearancing the heads and ordering a little shorter pushrods for the intake 1.6 ratio side
everyone makes mistakes and i am the first to admit it when i do and this time it looks like i just didnt clearance the heads enough for the 1.6 ratio rockers

dom i was told not to "waste my time" breaking in the cam with just the outer springs. the motor is about to go on the stand and get pulled appart. if the crank is good then its stayin 440 jus w better parts. but if the crank needs work its goin 511 or bigger

I told you about my experience but, maybe others get away with it. I didn`t and a few I know havn`t eighter. Eighter way, get a roller cam and b done with it.

now your just talkin crazy. im trying to get this thing back togather not cheap but why throw out a cam that has less than 2 miles on it?

the crank needs to be turned the rods and trw forged pistons look good though. i just did the cost analays and its gonna be a difference of about 600$ to stroke it versus new pistons and rods.

what do you guys think? for 600$ i should go for it huh

thats what i'm sayin. but the poll says fix it there is another member selling a 499" i just sent him a pm to see if he would ship it. i also sent a different member a message on a 500" kit and bcr mains w/ girdle i just want it running again. i hate not bieng able to drive my little cuda
