I've done the welder and nut thing before, it works but I also have the welders to do it. I sure hope it wasnt bottomed out for you

Could just be a fluke. Everything breaks. I was just talking to a guy that had two ARP studs break during install in a cummins.
I have used the manley bolts on 4 occassions now without issue. I hope you can get it out without too much trouble.
