Close to getting my Fitech installed in my 65 Coronet with a 440. I am running a Mopar Performance ignition and the distributor was curved by FBO.

Thoughts on the Fitech timing control? Use it?

How did you wire to it to this distributor to use the timing control? Best way to lock out advance?

If I don't use the timing control how did you wire it to the distributor?

Finally any recommendation where to wire for the key on power?

Thanks,
nd65

Thanks Chris. I will give that a look. I often find coming here or other sites is better than a tech line.

Post back what you find.
I recently called the Fitech tech line for timing related issues, I'm not using the timing control feature and asked about it. When I told him I was running the stock style MP distributor he said they don't support that, only MSD style. Which is odd because the instructions clearly indicate how to wire it. He said, "sorry, we don't support that"

So on that issue, I'm not sure what's right.

the msd and the factory distributor run the same stuff. i'm putting a fitech on my challenger right now and will document the timing install process.

There's a VERY (50+ pages?) long thread on FABO about FiTech and timing signals. According to Pace Performance and FiTech the unit requires a very clean digital signal to function properly. And an adjustable rotor to get the phasing correct. So MSD or one of the other ready to run distributors is required. If you've got plenty of spare time to read the thread there's a lot of great info in there.

I had saw that from Pace. That is what got me to asking. I have not read all of it.

I also had seen a couple of Youtube videos with Fitech on big block Mopars. One was a 68 or 69 Charger and the other a motor home. I don't recall either one mentioning running a non stock distributor.

Thanks,

I like the timing control, I run an MSD distributor and MSD 6al (factory unit is still in place) I locked down my distributor but didn't phase mine . I wasn't aware I had to

So you're happy with yours and the FCC? I almost talked myself into a system and then decided other issues have higher priority.

I do like it so far. No issues. It self learns, but I want to become more knowledgeable about it and tuning/tweeking it for performance.

You do need to ensure to vent the FCC as FiTech details. The "vent" will actually return some fuel, and some owners apparently tried to skip or modify this step for easier install and were not pleased.

I've got mine set-up now and it's left me stuck within a mile of my house twice. It's set on fuel only and I've got a shield on the tach wire. Just got home from towing it back. Hoping it's something simple.
I hit the gas and when the "secondaries" would kick in, it just bogs and doesnt want to get out of its own way.

Mine is working great, fuel only, wondering if I should try the timing control.
Up to page 30 of 56 in that thread and it's not much help.
I'll probably drive it as it for a while, then decide.

Looks like I just need to log some miles on it now. Runs super rich, but just need to fine tune it. But I don't wanna get stuck far from home in the middle of the night or else I'd be out right now.
I've read all those threads and I'm stubborn and want to use the brand new rev-n-nator and Firecore distributor I currently run. It's a stick car so I want to have a rev limiter, you would think they would have that built into the system (maybe they do but I haven't seen such). I've got the tanks inc fuel tank and meanstreet set up. Pull harder and smoother for sure when I'm on it. But just cruisin around it acts up.

RPM limit is easily set with handheld, it will cut fuel & ignition at RPM input.

For those that have used a factory electronic ignition, how did you wire it for fuel only?

I am soldering all my connections and put an Aeromotive Phantom pump in my tank.

Running mine with timing control with MSD 6AL locked down, with initial set around 25 degrees. Without a two wire distributor you have to use the tach signal input on the FiTech. Either connect to neg side of coil or on an aftermarket like MSD the tach output of the controller. From what I read signal interference is a problem when using the tach input so a shielded signal wire is required. I connected my Aeromotive pump directly to the FiTech with the wire indicated on the installation diagram, larger gauge orange wire as I recall. By connecting direct you can use the PWM to reduce load/heat on the pump at idle and low loads.

Best improvement I found in my application was to set the idle AFR very lean. Really cleaned up the exhaust and improved vacuum. Throttle response is great!

The FiTech rev limiter is a hard limit. They recommend to use a soft limiter set a little lower than the setting on the FiTech. It should work ok if you only intend to use it for emergency situations like a missed power shift.

What parameter did you change and what setting did you end up with?
I still have some exhaust smell I'd like to reduce.
