When I used to run a 440 6-bbl (both my Challenger and Road Runner had 'em at one time) I had home-modified outboard plates to allow using "real" jets. Not sure what a Stocker 340 would want compared to a street/strip 440, but I'd say have 62-68 for the center carb and 76-84 for the outboards. Even that will likely leave you w/ some jets that never get wet... but it should cover you across a pretty wide range of conditions if you'll be traveling around to different tracks Good luck! Me luv Challengers with T/A hoods! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank You Brad

H Did the 6-pack have a better cam then the 4 barrel? I think the biggest advantage is the hood. What rpm did you get out of the 340, where did it fall off? Picking your brain for my combo. 70 Duster 340 avs. Why would the stick be rated more hp then the auto? Good luck The difference between the 4bbl and 6 Pack is just a tick more compression .004 thinner head gasket. NHRA allows the hood on both combos. The TA hood works. The AAR hood is just lighter. I routinely ran my 72 340 to 7500 and a few times to 7800 in kill mode. The person to talk to about the AVS combination is Chuck Beach even though he runs an Auto (known him since the 70's when he had a stick in the same car). Thank you for those answers, now that we can run solids, maybe more rpm is possible. Picked up a LD340 at Carlisle, more open inside then the stock cast iron one, lighter too. Will you use the Jerico, what type clutch-flywheel? Wish I could row one. Mike

Why would the stick be rated more hp then the auto? The auto is higher than the stick. Nhra looks at the auto and stick combos individually....... And apparently someone was running "too quick" with the auto combo and got it hit. Never a problem getting a stick car to leave. 7000rpm, Youngblood clutch, Cal Tracs and Hoosier tires. So, your stick combo 60's as good as the auto? The guys I know running sticks very very rarely 60' as well as a similarly preppared auto.

I doubt the solids will make any difference in RPM over what I am running. The people I have talked with say the LD340 didn't add HP but was worth it for the weight off the nose. I have run a Jerico since the 80's. Rob Youngblood of Advanced clutches in Idaho is the person to go to for those needs. Once you have driven a stick you would never go back to a slush box.

My F/S Demon consistently ran 1.40 - 1.43 60ft. But are we racing 60 feet or 1/4 mile?

Well apparently this is far from your first rodeo, but it surprises me those metering plates are legal. This is what the rule book says:
CARBURETOR Must be correct year, make, and model specified for car’s engine; fuel or air bleed passages may be resized. Drilling idle holes in primary throttle blades permitted. Other modifications prohibited. Sandblasting, grinding, flash removal, dry film coating, or any other modification to carburetors prohibited. Replacement carburetors permitted provided they are same model, type, throttle bore, and venturi size. Computer carburetors use latest model non-computer carb for engine application.
Are the plates just something they allow?
Good Luck, Bill

Good Luck, Bill I was reading on Class racer where holly jets where made to work in a TQ in stock and all kinds of changes are made to the AVS thanks to Mr Beach. Talked to a well know guy on the east coast about these "changes" A good carb runs $2000 up now.

My F/S Demon consistently ran 1.40 - 1.43 60ft. But are we racing 60 feet or 1/4 mile? You're the one who said the 340-6 stick combo wasn't that competitive, and that's it's no problem getting one to leave. We don't race to 60'....... But it does start there. 1.40-1.43 60' out of that F/S are pretty good short times for a stick IMO. Better than my friends D/S, E/S combo.

Rod how you been. Jerry Davis is working on the same combo, auto not stick and having to work to get the carbs to respond. Give him a call, if you need his contact info PM me and I'll give it to you.
Ray Buckner Hi Ray long time no talk. If Jerry hasn't changed his number I still have it. Thanks, Rod

I didn't say it wasn't competitive I said few people have made it work and to my knowledge no one has made it work with a stick. There is one very quick auto that went 10.47 at E weight at Indy. The stick and slush box cars work very different. Radial tires won't take the hit of a stick launch but really help an auto.

Good Luck, Bill They are more concerned about modifications that make the carb flow more air not about adjustability.

That car ran good for you and Gene My first Demon is in Sweden My last Demon I sold to Riddle and Ken Etter destroyed at Fontucky. If I could stay away from the races, I wouldn't have the bug. I went to the Fontucky points race and helped Mazz and Etter. Etter won Super Stock. I miss the wheel stands and pulling the gears and the challenge of going fast within the rules. It is a disease for which there is no cure!

Looks like the 340-6bbl, at least the auto's, have had some power taken off them at some point. I was looking through an old "nitro joes" stat books(2010) and saw where they used to be factored at 328hp, now it's 319hp.
The 340-6bbl stick is now rated/factored at 2hp less than the 71 340-TQ...... 312 vs 314.
