Mine had a machined step around the entire pump gear that the converter kept getting stuck on. I finally pulled the pump and gear, and smoothed the machined part with a sanding roll.

In this photo you can see the machined step on the inside of the gear. In my case the lugs were not a problem.

The pump looks like it is in correct but still tall at .700 and the tc drive slot at .660 in the middle from wear on it.

I know you are tired of hearing from me,sorry
I called TCI and they gave me what comes to 5.688 TC height and when I measure my input shaft in the trans to the pump bottom I get 5.685 and that leaves no pump to drive hub room in which they want .125 to .187.
If you can help ok thank you.

You're wearing yourself out. I had a recent customer with the same issue - he couldn't get the converter in no matter what. It turned out to be the inner rotor was all the way down at 6 O'clock and the impeller hub was catching that ridge in the inner pump rotor. If you don't want to take the pump out try standing the trans up on the output shaft - take a clean small screwdriver and insert it past the pump seal and turn the inner rotor until the tangs are at 6 and 12 O'clock then line up the notches in the impeller hub the same way and slowly install the converter. It shouldn't take much to get the converter to fall in to the pump.

Thanks!I am taking my vert to a friend with a bridgeport to mill some off the pump drive[.125] and the drive slot.050] that is wanted as stated above in my post.this will let the vert back at least the .040 on the drive slot and move the nose off the crank enough also and I will use a washer between the vert mount tab and the flex plate equal to my end result when I fit it together.TCS said the max lug tab is stock height.

Thank you John cope for some tech! The drive tab is .209 to .193 below the top of the gear so it should be .547 is off the bottom of the pump.
