Not a Mopar though. Buddy picked up this 63 1/2 the other day for a song. We're currently building a 482 inch FE to drop in it. The 482 is a 427 FE with a SCAT 4.250 crank which makes a 4.250 x 4.250. Engine will get aluminum heads, tunnel wedge intake, street roller cam, etc. Should be around 650 hp on pump gas.

Needs one of Jay Browns intake adapters so you can put a Cleveland intake on the FE.

Auto. It is a 390 HP car but someone swapped a 427 into it back in the day which is why it has 427 emblems. It now has a 390 in it complete with cast iron headers.

For you mid-west guys this car does not appear to have any major rust. The car was stored outside for a while and the carpet got wet so there are some areas with heavy surface rust but no holes in the floor or the trunk area. Paint seems to be original most everywhere. Trim seems to be complete and undamaged. My buddy paid $3500 for the car which seems like a steal to me but he also had a 390 Torino that he tried to sell for a long time and nothing but tire kickers. So maybe the Ford stuff just doesn't sell like the Mopar stuff. I think an early B body car with a big block engine in this type of shape would be a lot more than $3500.

Car look good. Our family car growing up was a 63 XL. The fords are not priced like mopars.

Those are cool cars. I had a '59 Ford Country Squire wagon and a set of Edelbrock heads, headers, cam, carb, etc, etc. on a 390 and it could not move that barge lol. A 385 series 4560 based 514 solved that issue. There sure has been a surge in FE parts in the last ten years. I'd have rather stuck with that platform for nostalgia and fitment.

Crites restoration used to make some cool parts for these cars:

That is a solid looking car for $3500 no doubt.I'd liken the Galaxie more to a C-body of the era. They (C-bodies) can be had reasonably on occasion, especially with a 383,ebut $3500 is still a steal for a car that solid no matter the make. The 4.25 bore X 4.25 stroke motor could be built on a 383 or 426 wedge block as a parallel to this wink

Looks like a great project! I've always liked the 63 1/2. What block are you using for the build? Did the car come with a real cross-bolted 427 block!? Any idea what it weighs?

Trick Flow announced new FE heads at SEMA so we're building an engine around the new heads. Comp XR292 street roller, tunnel wedge dual 4bbl intake, new Comp FE rocker arms (another SEMA announcement), Aviaid front sump oil pan, factory 427 side oiler block, SCAT 4.250 forged crank, 6.700 long rods, Mahle pistons with a metric ring pack, etc. Should be a very nice engine.

I'm interested to see how it compares to my Trick Flow 470 engine. I made over 700 hp with my pump gas Mopar so we'll see how a pump gas FE with Trick Flow heads does on the same dyno. I'm guessing 650 hp but we'll see.

Back in high school a girl I knew showed up one day in a red '63Galaxie 500. 406, 3 deuces, 4-speed. She knew how to use a 4-speed! She really liked the transition from the center carb to when the outboard carbs joined in. She didn't really know about the carb or carbs. It was her brother's car and he was letting her use it.

It was only 6 years old at the time and drove like a new one. Looked like new too. One of my first hot car experiences.

That's a really nice looking all Galaxy, and you got a great deal on it too. A 427 sohc would be just right under the hood.

Cool car!

My '66 Mercury Comet Caliente that I recently purchased. Stock-ish 289 is almost done. My friends thought I lost my mind buying a Ford but it is all original paint, interior and never wrecked!

Wow! A real steel for that price, even without a motor. They gave the Max wedge guys fits when they came out. Got beat by more than one back in the day. Raced one once at the US 30 track in 64. We left together and the entire diff came tumbling out of his car right next to the tree. Got to see it on replay ( super 8 film ). Strange. eek

I think the 390 that is in the car will start and run but it might be shot. It has some performance parts on it, an aluminum intake, Edelbrock carb, chrome valve covers, etc. so someone worked on it in the past. But the car hasn't run in a few years and the gas is stinky so we haven't bothered trying to start it. We'll probably just pull the engine, drop the tank and flush everything before dropping in the 482. I'm sure the radiator will need to be gone thru as well as all new hoses and belts and exhaust and stuff like that. But it is nice to start with something that is all together even if it is going to get taken apart and put back together.
