I thought it was crap paint anyways.. took way too many coats to get it to cover Psssst! Don't tell anyone but I would spray some good quality Chevy orange on my engine, then cover it with the junk Mopar Hemi Orange

I must be the only one that hates orange engines. Nope... most of my engines are gloss black..cheap and easy.. on a few I spray them body color..but I wont waste my money on the MP paints.. I cant count how many cans wouldnt spray or quit at a half of the can...I got the MP paints at work so I used it and didnt care if only half on it would come out.. I would get 12 cans at a time and throw out the cans that didnt spray

P4120751AB Mopar race hemi orange paint is no longer being mixed!!!!!
Any other 62-64 race hemi orange rattle can companies out there that mix it?
Their paint color (and their Street Hemi orange) was so far off color they should have been arrested for fraud. They buy this from an outside vendor. Why didn't they just tell the people to mix the proper shade of orange? It's impossible to figure out how this works. As stated above call Totally Auto. It's expensive, and the shipping is expensive, but you are driving a Mopar so you understand. In a more perfect world you would order a can of Race Hemi orange from Mopar and it would be right. (How could it be wrong?)

I've been using por-15 engine paint and pretty happy with it so far. Next thing is see how well it holds up. It definitely covers great... I do add hardener and reduce it.
I used to have various orange, red etc urethane I would mix myself to get the shade I wanted, but ran out of it. I would use urethane and put a coat of clear on.

I must be the only one that hates orange engines. No you're not. Real engines a BLACK. Unless you do body color.
Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

For years it always seemed many bought 'race' hemi orange was by mistake. They really wanted 'street'...and most were kind of disgusted how yellow the race stuff was.
Nothing is really gone forever unless tooling or (in the case of chemicals) formulations are scrapped.....
The Turquoise paint has always been good. Had good luck with it. I had a customer send back an entire case of it because it looked too green to him and he didn't like it. It looked perfect and covered beautifully.
The old Pre-AB street hemi orange was as thin as water, covered badly, and was really bad to work with. They fixed it when they went AB and changed suppliers but by then, a certain reputation had been created.
The old 318/340/273 red was always pretty good too. I used quite a bit of it.

I always thought the race hemi orange was too close to chevy orange. Last 3 engines got dupli color ceramic chrysler red. Its orange with more red in it. IMO its a very nice color with better contrast to black covers and other accessories. That is a nice contrast. Nice looking motor!

For the last 20 years,or up to 5 years ago I always had good luck with the Mopar Performance RACE hemi orange.I did like the hue better than the street hemi orange.I still have 5 cans in stock.if I'm lucky I can get 2 cans to spray till empty.I'll deal with new paint next time the engine is out.It survived 5 years this go round!
HEMI-ITIS has no cure. My condition is fully BLOWN!!

Rust-o-leum Federal safety Orange. Thats what my brother uses all the time. Its not perfect but close enough. I may use it on my next eng I paint as I used the Plastic Coat and I am not happy as it has peeled in a few spots on my eng. I ended up finding some model car touch-up paint at a Hobby shop to touch up the spots that peeled on my eng. I plan to try the Rust-o-leum orange on my next one as it seems to hold up well. Ron
