W0W, o.k. that's actually great news, lets hope that's it.
After all, I did just install a new timing chain last summer and thought I had that "covered", but who knows? shruggy
Pulling the cover again would be easier than swapping the motor at this point. I could move on to anther project.
Thanx for the insight. up

I installed the tank valve in the outlet for the temp. gauge. Took the plugs out. Added 14#s of pressure. No sound from the plug holes, so I'm guessing it isn't a gasket or crack. Of course their could be a crack or bad gasket some where else, but I didn't see or hear anything.

So...
I will be re-sealing the front cover as soon as it warms up a bit and will post up what that does for me.
Again, thanks for all the help.

that is why in addition using a triple female 1/8 NPT T fitting (several bucks at a hardware store) and a 0-15 psi gauge in the extra port is good cuz you can see if the psi is dropping cuz as you noted you might not be able to hear a slight/medium leak plus it is a cold test but it is a VG start. Keep us posted. EDIT but on second thought if you have a tire psi gauge you can see if the psi is dropping as is

Exactly the problem.
It was a rather slow leak.
The pressure wouldn't hold, but I couldn't find (hear) a leak.
therefore...
I am leaning toward the front cover.
Mainly because I had it off last summer, considering the alternative.
It's not really a major job.
luck
If this turns out not to be the problem,
then I think I'll just go ahead and pull it.

I had/still have the exact same problem when I decided to trick out my cooling system to make it more "efficient" (& the was no problem to begin with before I started "thinking"! & a fellow mechanic suggested to pour some antifreeze in & you will see where it is leaking (pressurize it a bit if needed) & the antifreeze wont rust. otherwise a person might not be able to pin down exactly where it is leaking if listening for air (that did make sense). EDIT I for the most part added holes in the block decks/gaskets to match the OE ones in the mag heads. I probably should have these chinese knockoff mag heads psi checked right now. MORE EDIT I drilled/tapped & plugged the holes with alum allen head NPT pipe plugs & I'm gonna level em to the decks with JB weld then drill holes to match the ones in the gaskets. Problem right now is the JB weld wont harden in the middle (weather is too cold). Not sure the JB was the right move but I want as much flat level support under the NEW pair of unmolested gaskets as I can get (to hopefully get out from under this mess ASAP).

You got your hands full there Brother.
I plan to just use water and dish soap for the final check once things warm up around here. Then I should be able to see the leak bubbling.
Thanx again for all the help.
