I heard that if you use Victor heads you never get your engine running. Something about the curse of the Victors......

when I heard the TF 270 was coming out I thought to myself that I probably should of waited instead of getting the 240's,,now I am glad I pulled the trigger and got them as it sounds to me the 270 isn't anything special, besides in a couple of years when I do a frshen-up the 240's will be sent out and professionally ported, by that time the head porters will know what they like, no more being a guinea pig for me.

I am happy with my 240s opened up to a 337 intake.

I didn't want a scoop, it pulls like a freight train.

Larry Smith worked on the intake as well as the heads. 370cfm @ .700 on his bench.

Sounds nice! How big of a cam do you have? Enough to use that 370 cfm?

Compared to what sort of flow do you get from a Trick Flow 240?

I'm pretty sure nothing you ran into with them would be beyond your capabilities of being able to get the motor up and running

For anyone interested, Larry and I put an INdy plate and 440-2 intake on a pair of 270s and that should work pretty well. The plate is off a smidge but nothing scary.

Here is a picture of the 270 chamber and bowl area. These heads have the smoother competition porting from Trick Flow so they are much smoother than the 240 heads.

This is what the Edelbrock 2891 Super Victor ports look like. Port size is standard, BUT the ports are RAISED approx. .050". Bolts to a stock RPM head (and other stock port heads), but the ports don't line up. Wish I had seen this $412 ago. Edelbrock says the SV 2891 is made for their Victor heads.

My shortblock for the 270 testing is going together. It will have a tad bit more compression than my last 470 and it will be dry sump but it will have the same cam as the last 470. I'm guessing the power level will be up slightly from the last 470 engine but we'll see what the dyno says.

From what I see in your pics, that intake would NOT align properly with my Victors the way it's cast.

I don't have any Victor heads to check them on Brad, but these gaskets are the Edelbrock gaskets(#7225) that Edelbrock says to use. They are indentical to Felpro's paper. I set this intake on my engine with RPM heads. The bolt holes lined up, but when you look into the carb opening to the heads, its a HUGE mismatch height wise.

Crazy to me that they wouldn't release a matching (max wedge port) intake. I really wanted to try a set of these on a procharger build. But maybe the 240s will be good enough.

I have an untouched std-port Victor head and those same Edelbrock gaskets: the gaskets align perfectly w/ the CNC'd port entries (holes, ports, etc.). The SV 2891 you showed would have the same port mismatch issue on either a Victor or Performer RPM. It's not the heads, it's the intake casting. Could it be corrected? Yeah, but it's going to take somebody's time and/or $$$ to do it.

I wonder how the 2891 matches up to a typical MW head, and if in that application it would be more a case of doing a major port matching exercise to at least be usable?
