However, as an FYI - as usual the 1970 is a one year only part. For 100% factory correct parts the 1970 bumpers have details that are different from the 1971 bumpers.

Also all years 70-71-72 use a different corner bumper rubber piece even though there is only one reproduction offered as correct for all years

Here are details on the rubber bumper fillers. Will post photos of the different year bumpers later

Part #'s
1970 models: 2962344 and 2962345
1972 models: 3464064 and 3464065 (may also be used on late 1971 models)

The main differences between the bumper fillers - See photos for reference
> skirt length of rubber on side and bottom is longer on the 1972 part
> the 1970 fillers do NOT have any internal support - material is all rubber
> the 1972 filler is molded over an internal solid support
> the 1972 filler has a noticeable extra tab molded into the rubber (along the groove) this fits into a notch of the bumper
> the part numbers are molded onto opposite sides of the part

See attached photos

skirt length of rubber on side and bottom is longer on the 1972 part
also in bottom photo note extra rubber molded on side of 72 filler to make part more rigid

the 1972 filler is on left and 1970 filler on right

Here are the reproduction rubber bumper fillers

Not certain if there is ONLY one vendor manufacturing the parts but this style does not have the correct factory features as the 1970 filler. The repro fillers available more resemble the later filler style

Still trying to locate the rubber fillers I had from an early 1971 Challenger. However, may have tossed them with another 1/2 dozen or so fillers because they were bent or torn.

Finally had the opportunity to take some photos of the different Challenger bumpers.

The photos show the different shape of the corners were the rubber filler part is mounted
For the different rubber fillers parts - Refer to the photos in my earlier post.

These are all original bumpers. A photo of each year 70-71-72 follows

The 1970 model uses the one year only unique bumper
Note that the bumper corner is smooth - there are no cut-outs which corresponds to the 1970 only rubber filler style

1971 Challenger bumper from a Sept 1970 car

Note that the corner area is already changed from the earlier 1970 ONLY style
Not certain when this change over occurred but this early built 1971 car used a bunch of the 1970 parts in the interior

1972 Challenger bumper

This bumper also has the cut-outs in the corner though the location seems to be moved forward and more defined compared to the the 1971 bumper which fits the tab molded into the 1972 rubber filler

This difference maybe the result of the stamping process that was used for manufacturing the bumpers

Chas
I have this rear bumper removed from a 72 Challenger.
I don't have a 70 to compare to but do you know if 70-71 area shown here underneath the bumperette have the same characteristic, rounded down or is it straight across

Terry,

I have the rear bumpers for all 3 years, 70-71-72, so I can check that area and post photos of any differences

Terry,

Checked the bumpers and ALL of them [70-71-72] have the same contour as the one shown in your photo - rounded under the bumperette mounting area.

I did notice one difference on the 1970 bumper - the bolthole that is used to mount the bumperette is "round" and NOT "oval" shaped
