Yup, the .040 would go in if it was me. You will not notice any difference from .035 to .055. And I'm a guy that's ran pistons out of the bore .005

Nice build. Sounds like a great street combo to me. I like motors that crackle. Sounds like I combo I built a few years ago.

After reading this it has me worried as well. 511 with a .039 gasket and piston .002 out of bore. 6500-7000 max rpm. Todd at competition wedge engines told me to set quench as close to .035-.040, but after reading this i think ill pull the heads and replace gaskets with a .045 or maybe a .050.

Check how high the highest part of the pistons will get when you rock them cold, add .037+ for safety thumbs twocents

Using ICON flat top, left side measures .034 and right .037 quench. All the piston tops are .003 difference left to right. Im just gonna put a .050 multi layer gasket and call it good. That will give .011 more quench.

If you need new cometics, Don at 4secondsflat FBO has them with the lowest price I have found at $165/pr BB. He suggested I go with a .045, but ICON suggested a .051. I ordered .051. This will put me at a .045 quench. Didn't meen to steal your post, just wanted to contribute some info. Good luck with whatever you do.
