I rolled on my first coat of black, rustoleum professional, thinned with standard stinky mineral spirits from kelly moore. It seems that each color will have its own properties in terms of how much it should be thinned, how thin it gets, how much it covers right away. It seemed to cover very well on my first roll over, but I may have some drips to wetsand out. We'll see in a few minutes how it decides to lay out. I'm going to wait the full 24 hours before putting another coat on, then 24 hours before wetsanding that, etc just to be on the very safe side. Temperature in the garage is about 65 or so, and it's not raining so the environmental variables should be OK. By the way when they say you need the body straight to paint it black, they aint lying..

Hard to do how? Because of straightness?? The stuff has laid down really flat since that picture, it's going on nice.

UGH! So many choices of rustoleum here I cant figure which is the right one. Their site isnt much help  Anyone have a home depot part number for the correct tintable base?

I've been watching this thread from the beginning and decided to test it myself. It came out real good and was real easy. I included some pics. Just need to finish polishing a little more.

DEAR GOD! thats like looking into a mirror! How many coats did you do? And you got no bubbles at all? Is that black paint? how'd u get it to lay without any orange peels?
I went to home-depot today and they only sold ODERLESS MINERAL-SPIRIT then i drove 5 MILES to LOWES and they only sold LOW-ODOR MINERAL-SPIRIT. >.<"" cant seem to find the regular one.

I did 7 coats I only got few tiny bubbles. I used regular mineral spirts on mine and the paint rock hard after just a few days. The black is hard to do but after testing I figured out that after you do the sixth coat wet sand lightly with 600 grit and do one more singlecoat then go straight to 2000 grit. Because if you don't and wet sand too much and into the next layer of paint it will leave little shiny rings in the paint that you can't buff out. I polished it with the turtle wax polish with the buffer then hand buffed with meguiars mirrior gaze #7. I included another pic.

Hey. Looks great. I posted awhile back, and am now about to this point. I put on 6 coats only, but have to agree 7 would be better. I wet sanded to 2000 grit, buffed with Turtle Wax Polish Compound, I am very satisified with the results. I think the 7th coat would held with sand thru on edges etc. I did sand thru on a couple of spots but just sanded again with 2000, applied 2 more coats of paint, let dry, sand and polish. Now I am waiting to use Meguires Mirror Glaze #7, and the in about another month wax. I believe that the paint outgasses for about 3 months.

When I first did it I wet sanded with 1000, 1500, then 2000 grit after the sixth coat but the 1000 cut too fast and cut through some layers of paint. When I buffed it out it left little shiny rings from the paint being shiny under the top layer. So I wet sanded it with 600 then did 2 more coats then wet sanded with 600 again then did one more single coat then went to 2000. To answer Bakaryu other question mix the paint real thin until it is just like water and you will not have hardly any orange peel or buubbles.

I waited about 7-8 hours between coats and wet sanding I also put a lamp on it to help it dry faster. Before I wetsanded it I felt it to make sure it was dry and pretty hard, if it felt hard I pulled my thumb across it hard to make sure it was hard enough to sand.

k... so everything was going well until it started raining. my project is in the garage so it doesn't actually get rained on, but the last coat i put on after it started raining will not harden all the way, its hard to the touch and dry enough to wetsand, but when i pull my fingernail across it, it digs in really deep. Its had almost three days to harden yet still scratches easily. before it started raining out here the paint was hardening to scratch resistance in about 24 hrs. I'm pretty sure this stuff doesn't like humidity. well.... now i'll probably strip back to the primer with the DA sander and start all over.

Water spots wiped right off for me. It sounds like the layer of paint right before your last one wasn't dry enough. If your doing a test piece try using a lamp when your drying the paint. If your doing a bigger piece try letting it dry longer between coats and make sure it hard before you paint the next coat. You might want to try wet sanding some of the layers off with 600 grit and start over.

Not true, i did my firs two sloppy coats on the buddha while it was raining and it was cold at night in a garage and painted the second coat nextday about 14hours later and it was rock solid.
